Hey, I'm not a noob. But I wanted to mention to you a few titles that you may not have heard of. They are some classic Linux games that a lot of us have been playing for years that don't get that much love anymore. And I'm sure others will add to the list as well. Some of these can be installed via your repo or via snap package etc.
Urban Terror
Enemy Territory Legacy <--most up to date
World of Padman
Red Shift
Alien Arena
Assault Cube
Xonotic
Nexuiz
With some of these games they are often in the repos for you to install depending on your distribution.
Some of them will require a few 32bit libraries to be installed but there are a ton of forum posts on the net to assist you on the install if you want to give them a look. Also, you can hosts servers for these games very easily and it's a great way to be able to game with friends as they are all cross platform as well.
Had to edit because I forgot an obvious one, OpenArena! Should be in the repos as well as openarena-server.
