hi, I have a question about licenses
If I make an SF2 on the basis of samples of a specific synthesizer, can I distribute it or make it public or violates any law?

Re: Distribute sf2
Are you recording the samples by playing the synthesizer, or "ripping" samples from the synth's ROM?

Re: Distribute sf2
HI Michael, sorry my bad english
I look for a particular preset of a syntetizer, I remove the reberv I connect it to Synthclone and create an sfz, then I do more scheduling and export it to sf2 that I consider simpler to use.
I would like to be able to publish my libraries that are 100% created by me

Re: Distribute sf2
My thinking is the recording of a synth sound can't be copyrighted by the synth manufacturer -- otherwise artists would have to pay Korg, Roland and Yamaha royalties for any songs that use the synth. It seems logical that when you buy a synth permission to use the sounds comes with it.
There are two kinds of rights -- performing rights and mechanical rights. Performing rights belong to whoever wrote the song and this is how cover versions get copyright strikes on YouTube. Mechanical rights belong to whoever paid for the recording, usually the record company. Mechanical rights apply to the physical recording. So a sample CD can't be duplicated and sold -- but the sounds on it can be used in another recording.
Where copyright might come into it is the name of the synth. Just change the name slightly like Pro52 (Prophet 5), or FM Heaven (DX7).
From what I know this should be OK. I am not a lawyer, but I have done a course on the music business.

I share your point of view, although falktx
He told me that he would probably be subject to the license of each synthesizer
my intention, this year, is to create a ppa with available sf2 sounds
