low latency tweaks to snd-usb-audio

Postby eric71 » Sun Aug 12, 2018 7:07 pm

There's an interesting thread at Reaper's Linux forum where a user has tweaked snd-usb-audio to significantly reduce latency with usb interfaces, and made added it to AUR. I dodn't know what thay have done, but I'm curious if there might be a way to get this type of tweaked snd-usb-audio into the kxstudio reapos for those of us that use Debian/Ubunto based distros and kxstudio, rather than Arch. The interesting part starts at post 17 here:

hmm very interesting.
I am running it now, with 48000Hz and 32frames, in the super fresh (upcoming) KXStudio 18.04 :D
(I also have the udev-rtirq thing for USB audio IRQ priority)

and btw, I don't have pulseaudio here anymore, not even libpulse0 (for the entire kde desktop!).
The only terrible thing is firefox jack support that xruns too much in low buffer sizes.. :(

EDIT: how do I really know if I am running the new or the old code?

[X] Yes!

Code: Select all

mv pulseaudio /dev/null && Compile Firefox with --enable-jack.

That Class Compliant (256/2 512 + 205 ~ 14.938 ms) has bad values and no hdspmixer is available is sad.
With the RME driver (256/2 512 + 59 ~ 11.596 ms) and hdspmixer.
And you also want the hdspmixer.
