Dirty hands with GNU grub

...long story... removed a hard drive of a distro never used. grub was on it's mbr.
debian rescue disc gets grub back on (hd0) without re-install.
unfortunately I no longer have a boot menu and am taken into the grub shell.
To boot I have to:
(or something very similar)
I love Linux, it's great - because if it was Windows, I'd be really *@#:?"£!!
