DAW starter question

Hi there,

i have Linux Mint 18 and Ardour 4 installed.
Now i have read about special Linux distributions like KXStudio and wonder if it is worth to change my linux distribution.
What are the great advantages for KXStudio? Is the performance so much better than using a standard Linux distribution like Linux Mint?
Or is the great advantage the preinstalled stuff (Plugins, etc.)?

So for what reasons would you recommend me to change my running system?

Best wishes

Daniel

Hi and welcome,

you don't need to change. You can just add the KXStudio repositories in your Linux Mint.

You have then access to a lot of programs and plugins and also some settings are automatically optimized.

Also you get Ardour 5.12 then.

I agree with Lilith. Don't switch your distro, just use kxstudio repos, and definitely get the latest Ardour.

Hi,

i've downloaded Ardour 5.12 now.
During installation procedure the following message came (in Terminal):

!!! WARNING !!! - Your system seems to use frequency scaling.
This can have a serious impact on audio latency.
For best results turn it off, e.g. by choosing the 'performance' governor.

What is the "performance" governor? A Program included in Linux Mint?
Can you guide me how to choose the performance governor?

I'm relatively new to linux so i don't understand whats to do...

Daniel

@performance governor >> https://wiki.linuxaudio.org/wiki/system ... _processes (or a program such as xfce4-cpufreq-plugin).
