Tried Fathom Mono in Lmms, but what ever I click in it's gui, it will do nothing.
Edit: seems to be same problems with other vst's also...

Some good sounds in there. Lots of effort put in there and it shows in the sounds. Not the fastest to load sounds but that's OK, Lots of tutorial videos that covers a lot of aspects. Nice user interface that works like a modular synth. Can't go wrong for $11.
tavasti: it works with wine-staging and linVST (in Bitwig, should work in Ardour/Mixbus also as it's always Bitwig who's more difficult and unstable)
This said, the synth would need some optimizations. In the UI responsiveness (not that bad but some sliders are jumping when dragged - use the mouse wheel) and the sound generation since it works at 30% CPU for pad sounds. 'Polar lights' pad sound takes between 45% and 51% CPU !
Still, for $11 there are nice sounds. I'd say bounce to audio when done with a track.
It could be interesting to see it evolve.

Helped me out with an issue by providing a working password
for the latest update's archive. Within minutes of mentioning
my issue.
I like how the modularity is presented, I'm pretty slow,
so this instrument is going to be a help.

Again, it's a synth that has a lot going on for it. I have now included it in my arsenal, despite the mentioned shortcomings. They are not show-stoppers. Considering the quality of the sounds, I can live with that and bounce to audio when needed.
The user interface is very well made. I haven't started to explore sound creation, but just looking around it's impressive in the simplicity with which the details of sound creation are presented. And there can be many details. The presentation is light, not obstructed. modular, with nice large knobs and an animated display which makes it lively.
That synth deserves to be worked on and improved, made even better, Especially regarding CPU consumption. There's something popular synth makers are doing with polyphony that the Fathom author hasn't stumbled upon in his code yet. I have no clue, although I would bet that polyphony is not squarely about executing the same code multiple times, which would multiply drastically the use of CPU resources.
I'm looking forward to see where that synth will be 1 or 2 years from now.

May very well be. And at the same time, do not take any wine package from the distro. Take wine-staging from the wine-staging web site. Compiling linvst is the best option IMHO. It uses the Steinberg SDK that you have to get. Let me know if you need more details, I have taken notes about this.

linvst has a binary at their git site, it's always worked,
no complile/repo etc
gmac might have a recent deb if you ask
about Fathom gui speed, one of the three provided .dll versions is really fast.
The 3 versions are provided to work around various OS pratfalls,
but since reaper shows them all with the same name, a manual
process-of-elimination from the fathom folder will be needed.

Clicking the Fathom logo upper-left of the gui,
shows the version info, in my case,
the fast version is the Fathom 2.12.0 Pro MT build

Mine is 2.12.0 Pro MD 64. The slowness in the UI I've seen is actually only with the EQ sliders, as shown upper right below. Everything else is OK. The graphic curves have no problems, nor the knobs.
Another thing: it does not export VST parameters. Again, no show-stopper.

I have wine-stable, I'll try first with it.
Your notes might be usefull, maybe worth new topic?

Got linvst built, tried both wine-stable and wine-staging, same results: with embedded-6432, only 64 bit VSTs are found with mixbus, and loading Fathom64 -> lin-vst-server will crash on seg fault.
Linvst readme is pretty awful

OK, now that's done, is there anything in the log file by any chance ? I never looked at running 32 bit plugins, hence all I run is 64 bit and I built linvst with the default Makefile. Eg. with the Steinberg SDK in ../VST_SDK and the linvst sources in /Share/src/LinVst-master:
Code: Select all
cd ~/VST_SDK
cp -R pluginterfaces/ /Share/src/LinVst-master
cd /Share/src/LinVst-master
make clean
make
(root) make install
Maybe you could try a make clean/uninstall (or similar option) and try the default Makefile.

Same results. Do you have any library overrides in your wine?
