I'm new to LinuxMusicians and to using Linux for music altogether. Hopefully I can find some help here to my problems with JACK and PulseAudio.

I’m trying to set up Guitarix with Guitarlink (External sound card for guitar). Doing that was rather straightforward and I got everything working. But I have been struggling with trying to make pulse/ALSA sounds work at the same time with JACK.

I followed the instructions from http://jackaudio.org/faq/pulseaudio_and_jack.html on how play sound from PulseAudio. I downloaded Cadence and setup the pulse/ALSA audiobrige as instructed. First it seemed that all was working as expected: I could play guitar trough Guitarix and music in the web browser at the same time. The only odd thing was that I could hear the sounds only trough my headphones, but not from the speakers. As a first fix, I rebooted my computer. After that I lost all sounds.

According to Guitarix and “Meter in / out” in Cadence, the systems seems to work well and both receive and send signal. Nevertheless, nothing is outputted to either headphones or speakers (or at least I don’t hear anything). According to Cathia both Guitarix and “PulseAudio JACK sink” are connected to “Hardware Playback”. They area both also connected to “Meter out” which seems to receive signal.

I looked into alsamixer and headphones and speakers seems to be on.

I’m really confused and have no idea on what to do as there area no errors. Any suggestions and hints area highly appreciated.

I'm not sure what the issue is, but you might try first getting JACK working without Pulseaudio first. If you can get sound using JACK alone, but then you don't have sound when you're trying to run them both, that might give a better clue about what's going wrong.
