Synth parameter randomization
Hi everyone,
Carla has a neat feature whereby all settings of an instrument can be randomized with one click. Very handy for coming up with new sound ideas and testing synth capabilities. (I recently made some interesting presets for Synthv1 this way.)
Are there similar apps or scripts that can randomize synth instrument settings? (I think PD can do this, but I'm not so familiar with it yet.) Some synths, such as Amsynth, include this with a crtl+r key combination... but I don't think all synths do this by default..

Re: Synth parameter randomization
I haven't, such a thing could be done for lv2 but AFAIK none exist yet. I'd just use carla.
For standalone synths there's not really any standard way for them to expose the parameters to another program so if the UI doesn't implement it its not going to happen. I guess start making feature requests
I agree this is a fun feature to have.

Re: Synth parameter randomization
Of course, Cellular Automaton Synth already has the feature, which is lots of fun. Another synth with randomizing is Alias 2/Pro.ssj71 wrote:I haven't, such a thing could be done for lv2 but AFAIK none exist yet. I'd just use carla.

Since so few synths have randomizing, having an app (or script? maybe a mididings-type of thing..?) that could "interpret" the settings of an instrument, would be cool. FalkTX did it for Carla, and it works (almost) perfectly. With Yoshimi and Zyn, for example, Carla only randomizing the settings in the main GUI, not the settings in the SUB/ADD/PAD sections.

Re: Synth parameter randomization
I think that's dangerous because the VST bank storage is not standardized. You can set somewhere NaN value for some parameter and your synth will blow up your monitors or crash a DAW.

Re: Synth parameter randomization
might be easily done via MIDI maps.
the problem is creating MIDI map to every synth. that's unpopular and considered outdated nowadays )

Re: Synth parameter randomization
yeah I really think the proper way to do this is either 1. for simpler plugin synths the host can randomize or 2. the synth maker should add this feature.

Re: Synth parameter randomization
Randomize everything in zynaddsubfx... maybe that is not that good idea.
