When using JACK and Guitarix, system sound doesn't work anymore

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

When using JACK and Guitarix, system sound doesn't work anymore

Post by forivinx »

When I want to connect my electric guitar to my computer I always lose my system sound. All I can hear is Guitarix.

Is there a way to have both, the general system sound output and the Guitarix sound output at the same time?

To connect my guitar, the first step I do is I run this:

Code: Select all

alsa_in -j Guitar -d hw:1 -q 1
To create a new jack interface called "Guitar" that is connected to my USB to guitar adapter ('hw:1' in my case).
At this point I already lose my system audio.

Then I start Guitarix and JACK with this profile: (see attachment)

What happens when you start something using system audio first, like Hydrogen, or Carla
and then start the guitar?

I use this, slightly different command, for my usb Mustang amp, after an
audio app is running:

/usr/bin/alsa_in -j mustang -d hw1: "Mustang Amplifier" -q 1 2>&1 1> /dev/null

Cheers

Most likely your system sounds are going thru pulse. You need to config your pulse to use jack.
