As you may or may not know I ported an app called reMID to lv2 (see https://github.com/ssj71/reMID.lv2). Its a chiptune synth with scripting capabilities. With the recent release of socalabs open source plugins (see viewtopic.php?f=48&t=17581) they've beat me to the punch of making a version with a GUI (not that surprising, its been what a year and a half?). They used the exact same library reMID uses for the chip emulation, though their midi implementation may be slightly different (I haven't actually played much with it yet). reMID has (configurable, theoretically infinite depending on CPU power) polyphony and I think SID just implemented the 3 oscillators over 3 midi channels (I'm totally guessing about that). reMID has, as mentioned, scripting (docs in the readme, examples in the repo too), multi-timbral abilities (different patches on different midi chans), and also the capability to create "drum kits" of sound patches mapped over the midi keyboard.
I think those are the only differences. reMID already works fine with all these capabilities. On my roadmap I was going to just wrap most of this functionality into a nice GUI. Its a long road before I get there, but I'm wondering if I should just say, "hey now we gots chiptune plugins for days", and focus instead on infamous plugins and rkr.lv2. So I'm curious to know everyone's thoughts. No promises on whether it will change what I do or not, but better to have an informed decision, right?
