Question about Rosegarden vst and synth plugins

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

Question about Rosegarden vst and synth plugins

Post by shantiq »

Hi totally new here and a user of Rosegarden on which I write midi compositions ; a sample of which is here

Once upon a time I used Cubase and the amazing vst's Safwan Matni has designed

Now I have managed to make the vst's visible on a 32-bit install of Ubuntu 16.04 [not visible on a 64] but my question now is how do I hear them? What do i have to do to get sound out of them? Question would also apply to digital synths generally as they seem to be used in the same way

I post two images to illustrate current predicament

Hope someone here knows the answer to this question
Thanx

ha ok worked it out ... and computing the info for anyone else who might need it later :]
vst's used to be a no-no on Linux but with this dssi-vst piece of kit it becomes very smooth

To summarize:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install dssi-vst jack wine
➋ store vst's in /home/username/vst or /usr/local/lib/vst or /usr/lib/vst
➌ make sure your Ubuntu is a 32-bit ; I cannot see these on a 64-bit install
[please say if you know a way through on 64 there must be a way]
➍ click on manage synths plugins drop-down box
➎ fire up qjackctl
➏ no way to export natively to an audio file
so use jack_capture [commandline software]

Code: Select all

 sudo apt install jack-capture
then:

Code: Select all

 jack_capture -b 24 -f flac
