Ok, this just got way more strange. It wasn't the USB port that fixed it. It was unplugging it and then plugging it again, WHILE the computer was already running.
I booted up today, and I got the same problem. I tried unplugging and plugging it again, problem solved. I must stress that every other output audio stream works the same with no apparent problem.
It's not important that I actually "fix" this. I'm just keeping the interface plugged on the front USB panel, but it's really weird and annoying that I have no clue why this could be.

Uhm, interesting. That reminds me of my Scarlett. I remember that it was used to work just fine when booting up the computer with the device connected. Nowadays instead the interface will not work correctly unless I plug it in after the computer booted up, after I logged in. I never looked up into it really, but it could be either a bug in the kernel modules handling USB (maybe failing to do proper stuff during boot) or something related to systemd...
Will your device work correctly the first time you plug it after the boot?

Maybe the usb bus doesn't power the interface properly, might help to power it externally?

It is already powered externally, and since my condenser mic needs 48V phantom to operate and seems to be operating correctly, I'm assuming it's correctly powered.

We'll find out as soon as I can reboot.
Those look extremely cool. I will mortgage my home and buy a couple chapters.

Good thinking! This works too. It really might be a kernel initialization thingie.
