Sorry guys... I believe that with those quality remarks I might have shifted this out of topic (again... oh me...

). That's pretty interesting though, I think I will spawn a thread about "plugin quality". For a guy like me, moving his first baby steps in plugins development world, is for sure something very important to have an understanding of.

But a plugin's quality is not to be rated by pre-settings.
Quality
Capability
Usefullness for a given task
Songwriter
Instrumental composer
Film score producer
Cover band
Touring artist
Jingle composer
Mixing engineer
Mastering engineer
Home studio enthusiast
Talent
Skill
Work ethic
Budget
Now put all these in a blender, and what do you get?
People auditioning presets, making reasonable choices
based on who they are, and what they want or need to do.
To make blanket assertions about
such a diverse group of people accessing an even more diverse group
of products, the users all with varying personal potential, is the essence
of science fiction, which is fine, if that's your thing.
But it's not music.

Show me something that comes even close to izotope ozone. Show me a mastering grade multiband saturation plugin with mid/side ability and multiple saturation types. How about a multiband stereo expander? A spring reverb (not an impulse response plugin)?
I don't see how there is anything to agree on really. If you're talking about just open source then the list gets much bigger.
I'm glad you have and use great tools, but most of the worlds memorable music was created
without them, and the portion of the rest of music that is made 'with them',
is too small to be noteworthy, not because they are lacking greatness,
but because the sheer number of compositions made with competing products
dwarfs them.
But here are some izotope success stories, that underline your enthusiastic support

Ok, I give up. Linux has plugins that are equally advanced as windows, any differences that exist are irrelevant.
