Welcome
Just reflecting back on in the late 80's & 90's we always had a bit of The Cream of Eric Clapton tape playing in the car along with Peter Gabriel . At home I remember AC-DC , The Kinks, The Who, Cat Stevens, Fleetwood Mack .
I remember Mum playing Kate Bush, Enya and Dexy's midnight runners
Also I remember as a kid they had GOLD FM on in the mornings
I liked the 80's stuff Fleetwood Mack, alot of Peter Gabriel & Enya to.
How about your parents, and did you like it ?

Nat King Cole
Harry Belafonte
Elvis Presley
Jerry Lee Lewis
Chuck Berry
The Everly Brothers
I'm a little older than you.
My father wasn't much into music (though he did like the Harry and Nat stuff) but my mother was a 50s rocker.
Best,
dp

As Hispanic immigrants, Latin music of the 50s and 60s.
My sister brought in the 60s r&b, and my brother and I were responsible for the rock.

My parents weren't musical at all, but while she was pregnant of me my mother read in some book that classic music was good for the babies in the womb and she says she used to play it for me, so I think I got an early start in my vocation
Other than that, the great music aficionado in my family was my grandfather, who had a great cassette collection of tenors, classic music and zarzuela (a minor genre similar to opera).

Bluegrass and Southern rock. My dad is a really good banjo picker. He gave me a mandolin when I was a kid, but now I only use it with an EBow to get harmonic drones.
Here is one of the songs I made with his mandolin, contact mics and an outboard reverb pedal.

None.
They had no interest in music at all. Indeed I think they were horrified when Grandma informed them I'd been able to pick out 'Three Blind Mice' on her piano... and shouldn't they be getting lessons for me?

My mother was a BIG fan of Corry Konings.
So my brother made a mix tape for her for in the car.
Except it wasn't a mixtape .. it was the same song (see the yt link above) repeated over and over again to fill a whole casette-tape

LOL. Die woont hier niet ver vandaan. En woonde vroeger ook niet ver van mijn geboortehuis.
Ik ben haar al vaak tegen gekomen.
Translation for the none dutch:
She lives here not far away. And in the past not that far awy from my birthplace.
I have encountered her very often.
I'm jealous ... honestly

My mother loved Ray Conniff and Julio Iglesias. I hated those, but she also played a lot of orchestrated movie soundtracks, which I liked. I still remember tunes that I wish I could listen again, but I don't know what/who they were.
The worst itch I can't scratch is from an album that I could swear was from "Around the World in 80 Days," but I've checked that one out and the song is not there.

I've born at the end of 60s. My parents did not have anything else than radio, and in car, there was no even that.
On radio there was two channels, one playing news, classical and religious hymns. Other played old Finnish tango, walz and such, like this:

Rock & pop had something like 2 hours/day air time in radio.
On summer days of 80's I spent my time working on farm work, and listening those horrible things from radio in tractor. And that time Sony Walkman were to expensive, and car player with cassette would not survive that amount of dust in tractor.

What a cool topic, enjoying the various answers..
My parents had me very late in life and are/were quite religious and only listened to Gospel music by various purveyors like "The Cathedral Quartet", "The Watchmen" (not the Canadian 90's band, lol) and others of that ilk. I do recall a collection of the Mills Brothers that was jazzy pop of the 1940's variety that had some great jazz songs and ensemble harmonies that would make it's way on to the turntable platter occasionally. My sisters are 15 and 16 years older than me and when they left home in the early 70's they left one album... Carole King - Tapestry, it wasn't rock and roll but I wore the grooves off of it and to this day still know every nuance of every note on it, until I got old enough to start my own music collection it was the only respite from gospel quartets.

I would have loved if my parents would have played any instrument but unfortunately they can't play any note

. When it comes to music it's a different story, the music my dad liked and played has been a definite influence for me as it consists of some quintessential stuff:
- Fleetwood Mac, especially Rumors and Live. "I'm So Afraid" on Live still gives me the shivers. Christine McVie getting angry at Lindsey Buckingham because he broke a string and Lindsey getting back at her with one of the most haunting guitar solo's I've ever heard.
- Pink Floyd. I remember vividly that my dad took me to my first rock concert. It was Pink Floyd in De Kuip, a big soccer stadium.
- The Beatles. My dad didn't like The Rolling Stones. I still did get my portion of Stones though as our family went on holiday sometimes with another family of which the dad was (and still is) the guitarist of one of the oldest still existing Dutch rhythm and blues bands, The Bintangs. He was the one who got me into playing the guitar and making music.
- McGuinn, Clark and Hillman. Found a copy recently in a 2nd hand record store. It was a joy to hear that music again after like 30 years.
- Dire Straits and then especially Love Over Gold which is their darkest, together with Brothers In Arms.
I still have all the cassettes my dad used to play in the car. He also gave me his small vinyl collection and his record player which are now safe with me

Since I'm probably a bit older than the rest here, the answer is:
... the wrong one ...
(German Schlager and other tortures)
