Virtual Drummer

Hi there
I've just joined up.......I thought there must be a forum with Linux musicians.

I just downloaded AV linux and it's very impressive. All the plugins are amazing ( considering what we had a few years ago ).
I am trying to get my head around Ardour

Anyway one thing I wondered if anyone had thought of making is a virtual drummer plugin.
It would make jamming to tracks so much easier............rather than dropping blocks on arrange pages with the mouse all day! There's nothing worse I hate than either trying to play the drums on my mini keyboard like Keith Moon or dropping little blocks in all day like you are playing a musical version of Tetris! Sort of kills the whole thing.

Are there any programmers out there in Linux land who might be working on something like this at the moment would you know?

I've always had some good basic ideas about a plugin like this.....you could drop a load of midi files and fills and then do something simple like press F on the keyboard in realtime which triggers a random fill in midi........you could put lots of fills in there for variation..........

I have been playing with Helm and Triceratops ( or whatever it's called !) - it's very good...........lots of sounds in that.....

BackupBand is essentially a virtual 3 piece band consisting of a drummer, bassist, and rhythm guitarist, But in the settings, you can individually turn off each of the "musicians". So if you want only the drummer, that's fine. And since you can create your own "styles", it's analogous to the Windows program "Band in a box".

Go to https://sourceforge.net/p/backupband/co ... ster/tree/ and click on "Download snapshot". A "BackupBand" executable is included for 64 bit linux. For 32 bit, you'll have to compile it.

Glad you like it. It essentially emulates the functionality of Yamaha's PSR line of keyboard arrangers.

??? It's still actively developed. The next version will feature a completely configurable user interface. I don't mean just a skin or theme. I mean you can actually choose what controls you want, where you want them positioned, and in which windows (including adding new windows). So for example, if you have a large display, you could combine all the contents of the Styles, Chords, and Patches windows into a single window.

Or you can define no gui at all, for a headless (MIDI controlled) app suitable for single board computerslike a Raspberry.

What else have you written?

Lots and lots of stuff, but most for other operating systems.
