LMMS: No VSTi host and no Carla?

Hey there...

So I'm new to Ubuntu (MATE 16.04.1)), and I just discovered LMMS (1.1.3)... I got it from the "new" software center, and all was fine and dandy until I noticed that the wiki documentation shows two plugins I don't have on my copy: The VSTi host, and Carla... They're not in my list in LMMS...

Is there a way of adding them now, or should I get a new copy from a different software center?...

Thank you in advance!

Cheers!

OK so I uninstalled LMMS, installed KXStudio repos, and got a new copy of LMMS, but still no VSTi host!

VST host in LMMS is called 'Vestige", it only loads windows vst (.dll extension)
You should be able to just drag and drop a vst dll from the sidebar to an empty space in the track window or beats window and a vst track should be created.

Hey... I tried dragging dll libraries into the sequencer, but that didn't work...

Then I stumbled upon this solution here: "https://gnu-linux.org/adding-vestige-su ... 14-04.html"

The guy says it makes Vestige work, but when I tried it, my terminal told me this:

Code: Select all

E: The repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/irie/lmms/ubuntu xenial Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
What does this mean, please? How can I work around it?

Thank you in advance!

Do you have wine installed?
I already have wine-rt and just installed lmms from kxstudio repos and it has the vestige instrument. The packages which were installed were lmms lmms-common lmms-vst-full:i386.

Hey...

Yes I do have Wine installed, I have been using it for a little magical program called The Levelator... Does wonders for spoken word recordings, but I digress...

I'm sorry if my questions seem too basic, but I'm really not that good with the command line... I added the KXStudios repos (at least I think I did), but when a search for LMMS in Synapic, I get two results, both from KXStudio: one is called "lmms | 2:1.13-2kxstudio | Linux Multi Media Studio" and the other one is called ""lmms common | 2:1.13-2kxstudio | Linux Multi Media Studio - common files"...

No "lmms-common lmms-vst-full:i386" in sight... Where do I find it?...

Also, is Wine RT yet another version of wine? Because I just have the regular one I found in the software center!

Do I have to remove "regular" Wine before searching for Wine RT?

Thanks!

Wine-rt is basically just wine but compiled with a patch to help with using it for real time audio as far as I understand.
If you open synaptic, search for lmms and right click it and choose properties, then click on the Dependencies tab, for me it says Recommends: lmms-vst-full. I think that's the package you need.

If you search for lmms you don't get 3 packages showing?

I just ran "sudo apt install lmms" and it gave me the right version. Maybe install wine-rt and try to install lmms again. I think wine-rt will replace wine if you install it so that should be straightforward to do.

If that doesn't work then I don't know, maybe someone with more experience with debian/ubuntu packaging can shed some light.

I honestly have no idea why the right package decided it would finally show up, but it did! And I'm glad!

So yeah it's working now! Thanks for your time and help, and enjoy Vestige!!!

Woooooohoooooooo!!!
