Guitarix UI on Fedora: Difficult to see/read

Hello,

I've installed Guitarix on my Fedora 24 system. The portion of ui where one selects presets, as well as pool and order buttons, etc., has a white background with extremely dimmed font. It is near impossible to read. All pics I've seen of these areas are dark. I'm not at home, so don't have a screenshot at the moment, but just wondering why there would be a white background with a nearly white font?

Thanks,
Scott

Maybe a bug (feature??) in the gtk engine in use.
Please gime more info about the Desktop/window-manager you use, the gtk version

Code: Select all

pkg-config --modversion gtk+-2.0
and the guitarix version.

That sounds similar to the issue I reported a while back on Arch:
http://guitarix.sourceforge.net/forum/v ... f=6&t=4717

@sconarid: would that be the same issue as in the screenshot?

I didn't manage to figure it out btw - still happening as of latest git.

Yes, I think it's the same issue, could you gime your gtk2 version?

Code: Select all

pkg-config --modversion gtk+-2.0
and the version of the clearlooks engine please

Code: Select all

cat /usr/share/gtk-engines/clearlooks.xml | grep version

Not on my system right now but from the Arch repos I should have:

Code: Select all

gtk2 2.24.30+95+g876b5f7-1

Code: Select all

gtk-engines 2.21.0-3 (Clearlooks: <version>2.21.0</version>)

Well, installing clearlooks gtk2 theme helped with the buttons: they are now dark. The preset area background is still white on non-selected lines, but having the buttons dark helps visually.

which version of guitarix do you use / is in fedora24?

The preset area background should be fixed in version 0.35.1

guitarix = 0.35.0

I can wait for 0.35.1 update from Fedora. Having the buttons with darker bg really improves visuals in terms of pragmatics and aesthetics. I only use my preset bank, but once it gets more categorized the darker background there will be preferable.

Thanks,
Scott

Well, you can help yourself in the mean time, by type the following command

Code: Select all

sudo sed -i '/GtkButton::child-displacement-y       = 0/a \\n    GtkTreeView::even-row-color = "#000000" \n\    GtkTreeView::odd-row-color  = "#000000"' '/usr/share/gx_head/skins/gx_head_Guitarix.rc'
that will add the needed instructions to the guitarix rc file, so that the background of the preset area will be black.

I confirm that the background issue is fixed (by fixed, I mean black) as of latest git. Thanks!
Didn't try yet the buttons. Should Clearlooks be added as a dependency?

Yes, it's the same as with the roboto font, it could run without, and, if run/build headless, it isn't needed, but we, recommend the clearlooks engine to be installed (and it will be used if found on the system), to get the graphical experience we have developed for guitarix.

Yep, it's all good now.
AUR pkgbuild updated https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/guitarix-git/

Does that mean that your buttons now have the correct background colour as well?

Yes: buttons, presets area + icons in the toolbar. It looks very good now.
It would maybe be worth mentioning clearlooks explicitly in the dependency list next to GTK2. Since it is a legacy package, on most distros it might not get automatically installed (unlike roboto which is included with the source).
