Hey Guys
I recently installed KXStudio and started learning to work with Ardour for some time.
The midi implementation may be okay when a midi instrument like a keyboard is used, but for drums, it is far from being as comfortable as programs like Hydrogen (for example when adding a new note, having to wait around 5 seconds before the note is really added to the track gets really annoying after some time). For this reason, I use hydrogen for drum sampling.
Now my problem is, Ardour can't loop while Jack time sync is being used, and I really need that to experiment with the sounds I create.
I have read about Non-Timeline/Non-Sequencer which may be an alternative having this ability, but I don't really want to learn a completely new DAW after investing quite some time to learn the basics of Ardour, if there is another option..
Has anybody a good idea how to work around this stupid Ardour problem?
Thanks in advance
Melkor

Re: Ardour + Hydrogen looping
I thought this was going to be fixed in Ardour 5 but alas, the Resolution is "won't fix".
Although this works with Qtractor + Hydrogen, for some reason the devs persist on not fixing this because this is not how jack transport is supposed to work.
You can however (to my knowledge) let Hydrogen loop and let Ardour just play without looping. Don't know how useful this is in your case. I guess not much
Now from what I've heard Muse has an excellent drum editor, but Muse hates jack that comes with ubuntu/mint

Okay, thanks alot!
I guess I'm going to take a look at the Non products. I like their modular design and how the components can be used standalone... =)

Re: Ardour + Hydrogen looping
Just chiming in as I need better looping control too.
Looking at the lua scripting documentation of Ardour 5 http://manual.ardour.org/lua-scripting/brain_dump/, it looks like might be possible to make a poor man's looper via a Session Script - just sayin...
