No audio on headphones
Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right section to consult this. After I installed KXStudio on my ASUS K55VD laptop, the laptop speakers are working fine but my headphones does not output sounds. I tried to play around on alsamixer but no luck. I'm out of options. Please go easy on me I'm new to linux. Any help will be appreciated.
Re: No audio on headphones
Sometimes it is tricky. On my laptop all suddenly the headphone started working in quirky way... go figure.
Anyway, let's look first at your soundcards:

Re: No audio on headphones
Ok, nothing too quirky. You got analog and HDMI. I am wondering whether the loopbacks are doing something weird.
I have stumbled across this problem on a friend's laptop years ago. It was an Asus as well and I remember it was a pretty common. I think the documentation I followed was this:

Feel free to have a look. I think I will go through tonight and be back with something to suggest to you. Be aware that the pages are kinda old, so maybe something needs to be adjusted.

Re: No audio on headphones
Hi there! Your Codec seems to ALC270. We could see if we find any more info about it by doing this:
List contents of /proc/asound:
There will be a file called cards with some basic info:
There should be also at least two files of the tipe cardX, where X is a number. I think you will see card0 and card1. Get the codec info for each:
The first thing I would try is to mess /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. On a terminal, using your favourite text editor (maybe gedit, leafpad, whatever):
Add this line:
Save and reboot. See how it goes.
There are others model arguments you could try. I think a quick way to test them is by loading the kernel module with the model parameter:
I would also like to see the output of this:
List contents of /proc/asound:
Code: Select all
ls /proc/asound
Code: Select all
cat /proc/asound/cards
Code: Select all
cat /proc/asound/card0/codec* | grep Codec
cat /proc/asound/card1/codec* | grep Codec
Code: Select all
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
Code: Select all
options snd-hda-intel model=asus
There are others model arguments you could try. I think a quick way to test them is by loading the kernel module with the model parameter:
Code: Select all
modprobe snd_hda_intel model=asus
Code: Select all
lspci -vnn
Re: No audio on headphones
It's so weird that it works now. After adding on the conf file and rebooting, it didn't work. And I just left it and do other things on windows. Then I decided to try booting on linux again, surprisingly it worked. I think adding those lines made it work after shutdown. Anyway, thank you all so much.
Code: Select all
options snd-hda-intel model=asus
