how to test KXStudio Live-DVD

I just downloaded
KXStudio 14.04.2 Live-DVD - 32bit

made a DVD, and booted from the DVD. That all went well.

I am wondering what the best way to test this operating system
for audio.

The computer has internal sound on the Intel board, and
I plugged a Yamaha USB mixer into it.

So far I have tried this:
1. playing a YouTube video through the browser, and
2. playing an MP3 from the internet with the Audacious app.

In both cases, there is absolutely no sound
through either device.
What else should I try? I have another USB mixer --
maybe it is worth trying that (tomorrow).

I am looking around on the KXStudio site for a statement of
what the OS is expecting in terms of hardware (eg USB mixer?),
or any suggestions for how to test the Live-DVD,
with a particular computer.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Thank you.

I don't know about Jack, except that it
is part of the KXStudio image I am testing.
I think I have typical hardware, a 2012 ASUS box
that used to run Windows 7. I was hoping that
the KXStudio image would just work with this hardware,
or to let me diagnose why it is not working.
