[solved] youtube freezes (or won't start playback) when Jack is running

I was grappling with an issue on a new Fedora 23 system (new root; home settings carried over) where youtube videos wouldn't start playing while Jack was running. As soon as I stopped the Jack server, playback would instantly resume (but without sound because my the audio on my system is routed through Calf for digital filtering.)

It turns out that the old Fedora Musician's Guide still works
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fe ... _JACK.html

adding these two lines to the pulse audio config file, as per the instructions, did the trick:

Code: Select all

load-module module-jack-sink
load-module module-jack-source
(then restart pulse)
This added a 2-channel Pulse sink to the qjackctl patchbay.

I noticed that some similar lines already existed:

Code: Select all

### Automatically connect sink and source if JACK server is present
.ifexists module-jackdbus-detect.so
.nofail
load-module module-jackdbus-detect channels=2
.fail
.endif
but they didn't seem work. The fix added a "PulseAudio Jack Sink-01" to the patchbay, which required a few connection changes.
