Instead of a multimedia distro like Ubuntu Studio , Kxstudio or AVLinux, we need a distro with JUST audio software.
When i say just, i really mean JUST! No office, no messengers, no email client, (maybe) no browser, no cups server, etc.
I had a similar idea some time ago: release THE audio linux distribution. Something that could become the standard for audio in the future and bring more companies to Linux.
Basically:
- Optimized Kernel
- Jack
- Xorg
- Budgie Desktop
- Audio Production apps
That is what we're going for essentially. there will be tick boxes for stuff outside of audio during the install process, but it won't come by default. I'm also working to get some review samples for the software that is available on linux (harrison mixbus, bitwig, other plugins, etc.) to verify we have a solid platform for them
Please count me in for testing it. I'm in the music production for 20 years and in Linux for 15 years.

will do. once snappy and flatpak are more mature and have a GUI, I think they'll be the best solution for audio specific stuff, as a lot of patches and dependency caveats come with using LADISH vs. LADi, Calf, jack vs. Jack2_dbus, etc that can be solved effectively, if not very elegantly, with dep bunding. also, the first builds won't have a GUI installer, fair warning

I would to see a terminal window with apt-get that allows me to install things I need and nothing else.

I think a Debian net install can do that for you. I am very happy with Debian + Kx Studio + Liquorix kernel.

Yes, I've used debootstrap and really liked the result.
