Hi,
I've download the OLPC samples. There are some interesting samples, sounds, drumkits, filmsounds etc. .
But I wonder what and how I can do it with sampling...
For example, they provide some notes/tones of a piano, e1, e2 ,e3 , but what can I do with just the e in different octaves? Can I make a d1 from e1 and build a piano sample (e.g. to play piano with, having 'all' the notes)?
I think I can change bpm right? With audacity.
I like to learn more about sampling...

Re: Sampling 2
Simply pitch-shift it, up/down by semitones. Just make sure you keep the same length.
These samples won't sound much like a real piano, but if you have some cool filters, you can make a funky groove piano.

Why won't that sound like a real piano?spm_gl wrote:Simply pitch-shift it, up/down by semitones. Just make sure you keep the same length.

What software do you use for it?
edit: is there any quality difference when you change bpm in Freecycle or Audacity?

Re: Sampling 2
Because a real piano reacts very delicately to hammer velocity, and every string sounds slightly different. You won't notice much difference with good samples as a background track though, just never use a sampled piano for solo / foreground parts. (Unless you have a very good sample collection and sampler.)studio32 wrote:Why won't that sound like a real piano?
But piano samples allow you to do things to the sound that you can't with a real recording.
