Graphical Vocal/Pitch Correction

Post by Vitne »

I've done some research and I see there are a few pitch correction tools in linux, like Zita AT1, but I'm wondering if there are any graphical editors out there, or any being worked on?

I primarily use Auto-Tune and iZotope Nectar 2 for vocals. (I understand there's no iLok/PACE support in Linux, so no WINE Auto-Tune, but that's OK)

But I guess I could always run WINE with Reaper or something? Or VirtualBox with Windows?

On that note, has anyone had any success running Nectar 2 or Waves Tune with WINE?

I've used Gsnap for basic pitch correction. It also has a "midi mode" that would allow more editing, but I haven*t tried that. They do have both 32 and 64 bit linux vsts now.

The linux ports are here:

And, of course, REAPER works really well with wine, and their built in Reatune is excellent. And after their 5.20 release, they are going to update their native Linux test version and it should work with jack audio and midi, and be able to use all the included REAplugins (including reatune) and JS plugins (but not linux vst or lv2 yet). So that is getting closer to being a native linux solution too.

Thanks for the info, wasn't aware of Gnsap or Reatune. I looked up Reatune and it looks pretty good! I also know that Waves Tune doesn't use iLok, and Nectar 2 doesn't require it.

A native linux Reaper would be awesome.

I'm wanting to use as little Windows software as possible. Basically the only things that will trip me up are vocal tuning plugins. It looks like linux has everything else I need. I'd LIKE to have SSD 4 (Steven Slate Drums 4), but it's not at all necessary. I can always have my mix engineer just give me a WAV bounce. Plus DrumGizmo looks pretty interesting.

Also, just played around on the live USB of Ubuntu Studio earlier, loved it. Now I just gotta move all the important files off my HDD before installation.

I just noticed this post from yesterday at the REAPER forums. I'll try and build it later, although such things are usually a little outside of my skill set. Or maybe it doesn't need to be built, there is something about a prebuilt library in the readme. Maybe someone who understands such things better could comment. But the readme does also state it is now "exclusively using JACK for audio and MIDI i/o" and that "This is almost useful!". I'm excited to try it when I have a little time. It's also especially cool since REAPER 5.20 includes their new notation implementation. I've been playing with that in WINE already. Can't wait to see how things work in this early native linux version.

edit: Just an update - on my 64 bit 6Ubuntu Studio 16.04 laptop with kxstudio repos, all I needed to do was extract the reaper folder and add the precompiled libSwell.so into the REAPER/ folder. It runs and is playing back an mp3 file I imported. It didn't connect to jack automatically - I needed to connect the outputs and inputs in Catia. But it is working quite nicely so far and with all of the included reaper vsts and jesusonic stuff, it might be really useful, even in this early state :)
