What is Your Audio Interface? Mine doesn't work..

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

What is Your Audio Interface? Mine doesn't work..

Post by xtianstar12 »

I have an M-Audio M-Track Audio Interface. And a iRig USB midi keyboard.

I get crackling and then a loud never ending beep when any sound is put through.

I am starting to think it is my hardware. I have tried 2 different computers to no avail. I am starting to think it is my Audio Interface that is not compatible with Linux.

What Audio Interface do you use? What Midi Keyboard do you use? What is your setup on your computer?

I am trying to take this problem from all angles and hopefully I can fix it, and it may help the community as well.

Thank you.

Are you using USB or firewire? Most USB connections suffer from huge latency issues. Whenever you lower the buffer samples, it tends to crackle and glitch. Firewire is a better option. I believe your M-Audio interface has a firewire interface.

If needed, and especially if you're using a desktop computer, you might need to install your own firewire card if it doesn't have one yet. I believe it should help with the glitches and everything else.

PS: yup, definitely software related. You'll find those glitches everywhere, not just on Linux.

snd
mAudio delta audiophile 24/96 pci card, alesis qs8 keyboard,
yamaha and kawai keyboards, all with 5pin midi ports.

Also an e-mu X midi 2x2 usb-to-5pin interface. No problems.
-----------------------------------------
Is snd-usb-audio listed in the text file
in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist ?

Periods/buffer should be 3 for usb
Frames/buffer around 128, 256, or 512.

Any chance you are plugged in a usb3 port?

Turn off webcam, network manager, bluetooth, set cpufreq to 'performance'

check current cpu setting with:

cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq

Try booting with just the iRig plugged in. Can you play amsynth standalone using it?

Then copy the last part of /var/log/messages and syslog to text files,

then plug in the mTrack, and look at the same files and compare things.

I have a M-Audio M-Track Plus, which is essentially the same device as the M-Track. The only differences are the metal chassis and the S/PDIF in and out jacks. It works fine for me. 128 Frames/Period with 3 Periods/Buffer produces no xruns on my laptop with the usual audio configuration (i.e. low latency kernel, rtirq script, audio group, etc.). I don't think it is a compatibility issue with your interface because both models have the same class compliant design. AIso, a compatibility issue would typically produce no sound at all, not crackling followed by a loud beep. Have you tried using a different USB cable? It's just a guess, but maybe yours is defective.
