Yes! I have used many soundfonts with it to make loops for export, I always keep a mellotron and a Rhodes soundfont on my phone (haha) and a little folder of drum samples cos you never know when you're going to be stuck somewhere with nothing to do, and when I'm not doing something I can't avoid like living life, working, whatever, I try to write/play music. Probably only 20 people in the world ever hear any of it, because I'm not interested in releasing etc. I just love the process of making music.

(Side story. I was in a pretty successful band in the Perth, Western Australia Indy rock scene in the late 90s that fell apart in spectacular fashion just as we got a record deal, resulting in debt, broken relationships, drug addiction and no record. It's made me highly averse to releasing my music and to working with other people. But I have been thinking about putting some tracks out on YouTube recently. I haven't decided yet.)

It's pretty powerful software, really, it's just hard to use on a phone screen. When I had a 10 inch tablet, I used to keep my Launchkey Mini in my bag with it, and often just jam or fool around with it. The individual modules, some of them are just amazing recreations of some classic hardware. It's a hugely underrated bit of kit. It's at least as good as Reason was the last time I played with it (version 3, I think it was).

If I could get it to run on my PC, I'd probably use it quite a bit on there too, because it's quite fun. Almost like playing a game. Alas, the windows version from the website just gives me a black screen with wine.

On a side note, does anyone know where I can get Caustic for Windows version 3.1? 3.2 doesn't work with wine but apparently 3.1 (or maybe 3.0.1) does.

Edit never mind, I just found the post linking to 3.0.1 for windows. Thanks!

I've been saying that I don't want mellotron sound ever for anything, but then one evening walking outside, I realized I've been wrong (listen around 1 minute ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSpqLqC7U6g

Sorry to hear those traumatic events in past. However, lots of water has flown after it, and today releasing is much easier. My releasing is 3 phase:
* work in progress stuff is uploaded to my own web server, and links shared to friends in irc & other chats. Haven't had much past this phase lately
* stuff that is somewhat made, but not so magnificient, I create some video and put to youtube
* if something is properly done, I release all with routenote to spotify, iTunes,Deezer, and what ever those streaming services are. Releasing does not cost single penny. Model is such that I get 85% of revenue, Routenote gets 15%. And if there would be such accident that some song would take off, it is possible to pay, and get all revenues for myself.

If you want to thank for this advice, register with my referal link https://www.routenote.com/rn/referral/2f750c92 and Routenote will give part of their 15% to me, but that is optional, sure feel free to go to site directly. And sure, there is other distributors with similar model.

Oh I love Opeth, and I also love the busted, wonky sound of a mellotron. They sounded like that even when they were brand new! I fell in love with them when the first Portishead record came out. Some of the sounds are bloody awful, but some of them are just right as a bed for other sounds. I've never seen a real one! And I've loved the Rhodes piano since I first heard Ray Charles as a kid.

As for releasing, I will definitely use your affiliate link if I decide to go ahead with it. I'm still not sure if I'm going to. I play my stuff for family and friends, but mostly I do it for the love of the process.

Music is the joy in my life. I don't want to sound like "oh my life has been hard unfair unfair" but it hasn't been the easiest ride either, and the one thing I can always count on is that playing will make me feel good. I'm also clean and sober, I have a fantastic job and my dream home studio as well.

When I was trying to become a "rockstar", I was so obsessive about what other people thought about my work, and I'm hesitant to let that beast loose again. It was a real monster of a problem for me, and given that I'm so content with where I'm at now, I really don't know whether that's something I'm willing to risk. I know it's all in the past now, but even 25 years later I'm carrying some of that baggage.

BUT, if I do shake it off and decide to release anything, I will use your referral link. I'd never heard of the service/agency/thing so thanks for that. I've saved it and I guess we will see what happens if anything happens. I assume the link won't expire? Let me know if it does and I'll pm you my email address or something.

Yeah, thing there is to know yourself good enough: will releasing stuff to public lead to same obsession, or have you grown enough to be just releasing, and not bothering too much? That is thing others can't say, you are the best specialist.

I assume that would work forever, as long as I have account there.

I had this error too with wine-staging 8.2

Code: Select all

err:wgl:glxdrv_wglShareLists Recreating OpenGL context to share display lists, although the context has been current!

so I installed PlayOnLinux, created a 32 bit container
using Wine 6.0, Caustic 3.2 runs well, but for audio, Pulse or ALSA bridge to JACK is needed

Is Caustic 3.2 even supported anymore? I noticed Single Cell Software's website gets adblocked if you try to go to it, and there hasn't been an update in many years.

Thank you for the unintentional tip that this software also exists for the PC (free, full version!). The PC version from the Zip file works just fine for me in Wine 8.

The demo versions of Caustic 3 still works on my Android devices. So no save/export (dunno what that means: export to MP3 or export settings...). However, if you want to pay for this software on Android then in G. Play you can tap on "About This App" and click on the link there. That brings me to a G. Play page where it says "This app isn't available for your device because it was made for an older version of Android". The app hasn't been updated since 2017 (for Android ver. 7?). Like you said, the latest news on the website is from 2018. I don't think the company as such "exists" anymore. Usually that don't matter much except on Android: that turd of a non-system changes so much from version to version that older apps sometimes don't work anymore. No access to certain SD card directories, buttons that disappear from the system etc. Bummer... :(
