Internal sound card not working in Jack only

So not sure where to go to next on this. First of all the details:
Acer R11 Chromebook in developer mode
Running Crouton with trusty installed and kxstudio repos added
Internal card is listed as a chtmax98090
So here is what I have going on, I can play sound with alsa from the internal card (both internal speakers and headphones work)
External interfaces (example presonus audiobox) works with jack/cadence
However I cannot seem to get the internal card to work with jack/cadence
No xruns, just no sound.
The next place I guess I could go is a custom .asoundrc file but it seems to me if alsa works for the card this is not a solution.
Any one got anything I can try or need more information from the machine I can list?
This is my second chromebook, the first was an HP14 that I have posted about here before being used for live softsynths on stage so I have done the chromebook + crouton + audio station rodeo before.
