Think I found it. I was using QApt Package Installer to install the gcc5 package. Went back to look, and found it wasn't actually installed. Used dpkg directly to try to install again, and found I needed to pre-install libglibmm-2.4-1v5. Once that was done, the gcc5 package successfully installed.

I've just begun a full install (including meta-all), and so far looks good.

Once it's complete I'll post back.

I made two fresh installations of kubuntu 16.04 with KXstudio repositories and used the kxstudio-meta-all and the file that changes my settings of my system to get all the goodies.
After that I added myself to the audio group, installed kxstudio-desktop-base and kubuntu-desktop
Finally I installed the lowlatency-kernel.

I realized again what a wealth of software we have available, so thank you falkTX and all others who are involved in developing.

I noticed a few things (on both laptops, one new and one which had kubuntu 14.04 on it) :
- I lost the option of CPU-scaling in Cadence
- When using the onboard soundcard I can't adjust the volume anymore when pressing fn-f9, fn-f10 and fn-f11 buttons, but have to start alsamixer in a terminal to adjust the volume.

Did I forget something or are these features no longer available?

Thanks in advance!

Hans

Ok thanks,

but does that mean that...
(looking round to make sure nobody is overhearing this and with a whisper voice...)
... I have to install pulseaudio to make the fn buttons work?

:wink:

Hello there !

First of... Thanks a lot @falkTX to your amazing work, that makes our lives really easier with audio on Linux!!

@Broomy: As falktx said, you just have to install kmix, this will act like alsamixer in a nice windowed user interface ;) Note that you may have to choose the "master channel" you want to be controlled by the main menu in system tray, and re-set a keyboard shortcut to volume control. All this can be done in kmix menu.

Then I wanted to ask @shiftydog how he managed to solve his dependency issue. I have the same here, trying to install eq10q package and have this output (sorry, It's in french but it's quite obvious):

Code: Select all

eq10q : Dépend: libatkmm-1.6-1 (>= 2.22.1) mais il n'est pas installable
         Dépend: libcairomm-1.0-1 (>= 1.6.4) mais il n'est pas installable
         Dépend: libglibmm-2.4-1c2a (>= 2.36.2) mais il n'est pas installable
         Dépend: libgtkmm-2.4-1c2a (>= 1:2.24.0) mais il n'est pas installable
         Dépend: libpangomm-1.4-1 (>= 2.27.1) mais il n'est pas installable
         Dépend: libsigc++-2.0-0c2a (>= 2.0.2) mais il n'est pas installable
I successfully installed kxstudio-repos_9.2.2~kxstudio1_all.deb and kxstudio-repos-gcc5_9.2.2~kxstudio1_all.deb (I think it was successful, everything is working like a charm - jack, cadence, catia, ardour, etc.), but I don't know what is "meta-all"...

Can you please tell us how you solved this with a bit more details?
Thanks a lot!

Sorry for the late reply. This was my issue as well - I was using QAPT package installer to install the gcc5 package. It lied and called it successful. I use dpkg a lot more now. :)

I don't think there's any shame here. I'm not exactly a noob - I administer RHEL servers for a living. And I still got burned on this one.
