New 534 version of Linux native Reaper is out.

It has inbuilt support for vst UI's, so Carla etc run with UI's.

The usage rules for landoleet forbid to link to its web site. Please remove the link.
Nevertheless, with the latest commits to libSwell the pan knobs are working again and the plugin guis are working.
IMHO reaper is ready for an official release now.

This is exciting. Is it just for me that the menu fonts look terrible?

Have you installed the msttcorefonts package ? Then they should look at least acceptable.

Finally had a look, in my case the fonts don't look very 'finished' but they look better than sysrqer's screenshot. I was able to run LV2 plugins in Carla-rack (VST) so this is pretty promising! Any chance of a 32bit version?



If there are any Debian/Ubuntu users interested in having a look at this latest version I've made a 'convenience-deb' debian package which simply places the Reaper bundle in /opt including libswell-gtk3 and the high dpi theme, as well as a menu launcher. I've tested this package on Debian Stretch so YMMV.

This is for evaluation and convenience for testing, I will not likely be maintaining these packages for every new release, for now there is only 64bit

Linux Reaper has received some libswell updates recently.

Panning knobs bug fixed.

Vst support improved.

Most Linux vst plugins work but there are a few exceptions such as the LSP plugins.

Some window issues improved.

Reapack mostly works with Linux Reaper.

ReaSamplomatic5000 works as do the other built in plugins.

Carla vst works and can handle Windows vst's.

I've had Kontakt player working in Carla and Linux Reaper.

That might get some heavy linux use, with seq24 in partial limbo.
If it's functioning well. The Native Instruments classics are great,
Kontact competitors are mosty dongled these days, so having
it available will help the composers needing sampled soundsets.

No, I havn't tried it yet.

If anyone is interested in how I got the 5.6 version of Kontakt player to work then

I had to get 64bit dlls from dll files

msvcp140.dll
concrt140.dll
api-ms-win-crt-time-l1-1-0.dll
api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll
ucrtbase.dll

and copy the dll's to the system32 directory and configure them to be native in winecfg to get the Kontakt standalone and the Kontakt 64bit vst working.

(I'm using Ubuntu Studio 16.04 btw)

The Kontakt wine howtos that are around on the net didn't work (for this Kontakt version).

I could then load the Kontakt 64 bit vst with the Carla2 vst.

Kontakt (under Wine) seems to run in a better way with multiprocessing turned off (and even with multiprocessing also turned off in the DAW ie Linux Reaper) but the multiprocessor performance might depend on someones system.

Log files? Windows installer logs? Reading 'between the lines'? Programming knowledge?

Let me get this straight...

You guys are NOT using the Windows version of Reaper so you can use Carla to run WindowsVST's on the Linux version of Reaper... when the Windows version of reaper runs just fine in Wine...?

BTW I don't know what the expected behavior of the panning knobs is, they work with latest libSwell but they are very erratic to mouse input

Anyone here using Archlinux got this working?
I had it working when it was first announced but the past few updates just will not run.

Yes, some real irony bobbing up to the surface, but I think people are mainly testing the waters,
getting a feel for potential workflows. There is still enough hit & miss among native linux vst hosting,
for linux Reaper to do well in the competition. I've also read many inconsistancies among linux based
windows vst hosting apps, perhaps due to so many versions of wine being run under so many hoods.
The more info the better, it get's divvied up and spread around, a little sumpin' fer everyone.

I can see where one might run a couple of linux Zebra2 instances in qtractor and bitwig, use the windows Zebra2
in wine/reaper, and record it all in Mixbuss, just to take advantage of sundry specialized effects and daw capabilities,
and Reaper has quite a few ancillary utilities/capabilities still well under the radar, pun unintentional as it is ironic

Linux itself is the DAW, the rest is just glorified romplers with plugins tagging along.
