Looks like it half-works.. You know if it's worth it buying a more compatible card

thanks, ok i'm really stuck!
here's my bag...
i have a Carillon system with an inbuilt EM-U 1212m sound card. i have no idea how to make it work and by looking at the AlsaProject site it doesn't look like it's gonna work... i also have an Edirol FA-66 that i use with my Mac... it's firewire and the only firewire port on my comp is in the E-MU 1212m (d'oh!). when i plug it in the bus power on the Edirol comes on, so its obviously all connected correctly.

basically i've used mac and pc, but only got my hands on Ubuntu Linux over the last couple of months. i'm a bit scared... i have no money to buy another sound card just now. can anyone help me? can i make one of these soundcards work?

thanks for your patience

check dmesg and lspci (both command-line commands) to see if your EMU's firewire is recognized as such. If it is, then I suppose you could try freebob for the edirol. But I'm only guessing here...
