Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L305D laptop that's set up to dual boot to Ubuntu and Windows. While in Windows, the maximum sound volume is much louder than the maximum volume under Ubuntu. Is there a way to increase the maximum audio volume under Ubuntu?
Thanks,
Xilefone

Re: Ubuntu audio volume question
If you are using the "Master" control, make sure "PCM" is at it's maximum, if you're using "PCM", make sure "Master" is at it's max....
Other than that, no idea...

Re: Ubuntu audio volume question
I have the same issue. Volume is much quieter in Ubuntu and 64 Studio than in Windows. I would like to figure out why because it sucks watching movies with a volume so low I can't chew popcorn.
Thus, when doing music stuff I have to crank my external monitors way high, which makes me nervous. If I forget to turn them down and switch to windows I could blow them or my ears.

Re: Ubuntu audio volume question
Try running alsamixer in a terminal, it exposes all alsa controls, which should solve your problem.

Re: Ubuntu audio volume question
This is a common problem when the HDA Intel audio driver fails to autodetect the specific model of the sound card directly. Is your card by any chance a HDA Intel card? Then https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto might help.xilefone wrote:While in Windows, the maximum sound volume is much louder than the maximum volume under Ubuntu.
