Hi Koen,

To answer your question. I'm not a jack expert. Maybe you can try set off realtime? Maybe you should set a higher value at Frames/Period....
Maybe try to set on 'softmode'... did you pick the right soundcard (I've hw 0;0) ??

sadly none of your solutions seem to work. Where is jack for anyway? What does it do? Well i think ill launch windows again and try my luck on fruityloops or something else.

What is JACK?

Have you ever wanted to take the audio output of one piece of software and send it to another? How about taking the output of that same program and send it to two others, then record the result in the first program? If so, JACK may be what you've been looking for.
JACK is a low-latency audio server, written for POSIX conformant operating systems such as GNU/Linux and Apple's OS X. It can connect a number of different applications to an audio device, as well as allowing them to share audio between themselves. Its clients can run in their own processes (ie. as normal applications), or can they can run within the JACK server (ie. as a "plugin").
JACK was designed from the ground up for professional audio work, and its design focuses on two key areas: synchronous execution of all clients, and low latency operation. More background information is available.

More information about the jack setup is here: http://www.64studio.com/manual/audio/jack

Here s another setup: http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/4308 ... tupqy7.png

I always have a RT kernel, but someone says it is not needed perse.. but I think it will give you better results.

Maybe you have to edit your /etc/security/limits.conf
more info about that you can find here: http://tapas.affenbande.org/wordpress/?page_id=73

You can try to install the ubuntu studio audio packages which installs the RT kernel and a lot(!?!) other (useful) packages....

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install ubuntustudio-audio ubuntustudio-audio-plugins
You can also try it at #ubuntustudio @ freenode, IRC chat....

I think this is the core of your problem - google turns up quite some results for this, for example this one looks promising.

@ Koen, so it seems you have to edit your /etc/security/limits.conf

I had a very simple solution for my jack not running, not on Linux right now, but look into your settings. Something like HW1 -> look if your soundcard is recognized of that you selected the right one. Also, look in the howto, I posted a link on how to configure your settings for jack.
