I've had it with firewire/ffado/freebob. You just cannot depend on it. Whatever update on your system breaks everything and you're back at zero and can start all over again. Add to that the ridiculous connector used on laptops together with a cable stiff enough to drill through a wall. Another point is that there is no firewire on the netbook. So I'm moving to USB.
At the moment I have an Edirol FA-66 and when it works I'm pretty happy with it. The offered functionality is just right, mic amp quality was also good enough for me, normal size connectors and a headphone amp.
The only interface I can see at the moment that looks like it will work is the Edirol UA-25EX. Only stereo however. I would prefer a 4x4 interface. There is the UA-101 but I'm rather sceptical about the 10 channels full duplex at 96kHz claim... Phantom power is a must and if I can have phantom power for USB power I'm in heaven.
