No sound with KX Studio

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

"speaker-test -c2" generates no sound neither
The output looks OK but now I realize that speaker-test defaults to the onboard card.
So you have to specify the device, which I gave to you incorrectly in a previous post. What is the output of

aplay -L

?

I suggested mplayer for being command line based so in theory easier to copy/paste messages rather than taking screenshots,
but maybe it was not a good idea...
Another jack-aware media player is audacious with the jack output selected via audacious: Sound --> Preferences.

Jack ports and connections seem OK, with the pulseaudio jack sink front-left and right connected to system playbacks 1 and 2
(system playbacks 1 and 2 should be m-audio oouts 1 and 2). So, this is correct:
PulseAudio JACK Sink:front-left
system:playback_1
PulseAudio JACK Sink:front-right
system:playback_2
The rest of the channels are not used, but pulseaudio should know about this. I remember having changed some
pulseaudio configuration file when I had a M2496 years ago. I wonder, nowadays it should just work but you never know.

I don't know what else you can try, there is something wrong but unfortunately I can't reproduce your situation
in my laptop.

EDIT: I am reading the last posts of the other thread "No MIDI sound with Rosegarden". Just a note about Catia screenshots:
You can drag the black boxes to fit them in the screen.

I installed audacious and set its output channel for Jack, and then wrote audacious instead of mplayer, but get this:

tl@tl-P5Q-SE ~ $ audacious -ao jack jnd.mp3
audacious: Unknown option -ao
Try `audacious --help' for more information.

I installed audacious and set its output channel for Jack, and then wrote audacious instead of mplayer, but get this:
Just use the audacious GUI. But first do the speaker test, see below.

So, now if you don't mind, another command line speaker-test, after closing Cadence, and kill the jackd processes

killall -9 jackd jackdbus

(twice as always, if jackdbus doesn't die, make sure you quit Cadence, and try again until both processes are not found)
An then (first CHECK THAT SPEAKERS ARE AT LOW VOLUME) and:

speaker-test -Dfront:M2496 -c2

I hope now it's working. Is it producing pink noise?

Some weird things happened.. After the "killall -9 jackd jackdbus" command I did the speaker-rest command but forgot the language command "export LANG=C". Then I copied "export LANG=C" but at the moment I pasted it into the terminal, a lot of other stuff appeared, incl. lines from your post, before "tl@tl-P5Q-SE ~ $ export LANG=C". Strange  Anyways, then I did the speaker-test command (which didn't produce any sound). Here's the full story:

tl@tl-P5Q-SE ~ $ killall -9 jackd jackdbus
jackd: ingen proces fundet
tl@tl-P5Q-SE ~ $ killall -9 jackd jackdbus

Another strange/funny thing: As always, it's only the player in Kid3 that produces sound, but now it plays very slowly, and also the pitch is low!

As for Mplayer, my software manager says it's installed but I don't see it anywhere.. There's a video player installed called 'Videoer' (meaning videos), but when I start/open it my PC freezes, and I have to turn off the power directly :x Here's a screenshot of it:

Weird.

Also, speaker-test doesn't work as I would expect.

There is something wrong with your system,
As for Mplayer, my software manager says it's installed but I don't see it anywhere
mplayer is a command-line program. There are GUIs for mplayer.

Could you post some screenshots of mudita24?

The Monitor Inputs were already down, but the Monitor PCMs were up, so I've turned them down now. And Analog Volume is up.

In the meantime some sound preference settings have changed by itself, see here:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14931&p=67666&e=67666

Also, the cooling fan now changes speed all the time, but I guess that has nothing to do with it.

I really don't know what happens.

I second glowrak guy's opinion that you should try AVLinux, from a Live DVD.
AVLinux doesn't install pulseaudio. It is simpler. You will be using qjacktl (I don't think AVLinux features Cadence),
but that is irrelevant. Use mudita24 and then qjackctl making sure you select the M2496

Or try installing KXstudio from scratch (I think that you have added the repos to Linux Mint,
which is not exactly the same).

Yes, I will try AVLinux (and should probably have done from the start, but always easy to be wise in hindsight!) Good to hear it's simpler, this splitting in Jack and Pulse must have confused quite a few other than me. But in any case I have got some new knowledge from all this, and you have all been a great help, I really appreciate it. Thanks a lot!

And perhaps we meet again when I've installed AVLinux - and run into a new headache

Hi again, now it work! :D Don't ask me why cause I made no changes the last time the computer was turned on. But both the players and Ardour make sound now, and the tempo /pitch is also normal again. That's really weird, and I hope it will last, but both players and sequencer working simultaneously is new, and a promising sign, so I cross my fingers... Anyway, without your help I would still hear absolutely nothing, so thanks again :)
