Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge kxstudio-repos kxstudio-repos-gcc5
then re-add the kxstudio repos again.
I purged the old kxstudio repo configs, then re-added them. This did not make any difference. My installation of jack2 is 6:1.9.10~git20140122-1+kxstudio~raring1. For jack1 I have the following version available: 2:0.124.2~20150719-1~wiley3, but when I try to install it I get the following message:
Could not mark all packages for installation or upgrade
jackd1:
Depends: libjack0 (2:0.124.2~20150719-1~wiley3) but 6:1.9.10~git20140122-1+kxstudio~raring1 is to be installed.

Do you have any other advice?

falkTX wrote:yes, keep forcing the install until it lets you do that.
ie, do 'sudo apt-get install jackd2' and if it fails add the complained package to the end of the command, like:
sudo apt-get install jackd2 libjack-jackd2-0
keep going until you it either forces the install or gives a final unrecoverable error.
I suspect it will let you install. if not, paste here the final error.
I already have jack2 installed. I am assuming that you meant to say I should force the install of jack1?

falkTX wrote:no, that was on purpose. the version you have of jack2 is older.
but forcing jack1 install might be good too, that way test if updates are really working.
Trying to install jackd2 from the terminal:
sudo apt-get install jackd2
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
jackd2 is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Trying to install jackd1 from the terminal:
sudo apt-get install jackd1 libjack0
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
libjack0 is already the newest version.
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
jackd1 : Depends: libjack0 (= 2:0.124.2~20150719-1~wily3) but 6:1.9.10~git20140122-1+kxstudio1~raring1 is to be installed
Recommends: jackd1-firewire but it is not going to be installed

I am also curious as to why when I try to re-install jack2d I am being told it is already the latest version, when it is from raring. Do you know what would cause that?

falkTX wrote:the jack2 wily version doesn't build right now.

btw, did you enable the gcc5 variant of the repos?
it's needed for ubuntu >= 15.04

I don't really know how you got the jack1 version as 6:1.9.10~git20140122-1+kxstudio1~raring1.
I stopped overriding the jack version to jack2 on 12.04.

this might be a bit tricky to solve, but the solution will for sure be to install jack1 first.

perhaps this?

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install jackd1=2:0.124.2~20150719-1~wily3 libjack0=2:0.124.2~20150719-1~wily3
Success! QTractor now starts... One quick question. Should I uninstall jack2 or leave both it and jack1 installed. Will having both cause a conflict? When I use Cadence to automatically connect to jack will it automatically sort things out?

but errm, if things are working now leave them until you need to change something.
A HUGE thank you for all of your expert help in getting this issue resolved! A quick note in case this comes up again - instead of leaving both jack1 and jack2 installed, I went ahead and uninstalled jack2. Everything appears to be working normally...
