250GB USB 3.0 SSD vs 2TB USB 3.0 HD

I plan to install KxStudio on an Acer C720 Chromebook using Peppermint OS 6 as the base distro.

For under $90 I can get either one of two external USB 3.0 drives - a (1) 250GB Samsung SSD T1 or (2) 2TB Seagate Backup Plus Slim hard drive

The SSD can transfer at about 450 MB/s while the hard drive speed is about 100 MB/s

Which seems more appropriate for use with a KxStudio setup and why?

Since large files can always be offloaded to a larger hard drive, under what conditions would 250GB feel cramped in actual use with KxStudio?

Thanks for any guidance/opinions.

I see that I can replace the internal Acer C720 16GB SSD with a 256GB SSD for the same price. This is the option I chose.

This should make a Chromebook KxStudio setup more portable and I can always add an external USB 3.0 HD later, if needed.

As an OS base for KxStudio, instead of Peppermint OS 6, I am considering the new Chromebook-optimized GalliumOS after the release goes final.

You can always test new OS options on external drives later.
Speed is a good priority, and 250 gig SSD has plenty of room for linux audio.

I've seen it mentioned that some SSD's set aside work space for
internal file management, and others don't, in which case leaving
10 to 20 % of disk space 'unallocated' at format time, is recommended. I chose 10%
on a 64 gig mini ssd, seems to work well. MTBF on new ssd is pretty
much equal to spinning drives these days. Pretty cool hardware!

Check phoronix website sometimes, they test a lot
of ssd and other hardware, and might do a gallium review.
Cheers
