Recently I installed Linux Mint (MATE) and afterwards I replaced my old sound card with a Audiophile 2496 sound card from M-Audio. By searching for Audiophile 2496 in the Package manager I found Mudita24 (formerly called Envy24) and installed it. But still it's only the built-in sound card (HDA Intel) is visible under Menu > Preferences > Sound, and I can neither play any sound nor open Mudita24, so something is wrong, but what? I've taken the sound card out and re-installed it, but no difference. If anyone can help I would be glad

Hello asbak
aplay -l shows this: (Danish language)
**** Liste over PLAYBACK-hardwareenheder ****
lydkort 0: Intel [HDA Intel], enhed 0: ALC1200 Analog [ALC1200 Analog]
Underenheder: 1/1
Underenhed #0: subdevice #0
lydkort 0: Intel [HDA Intel], enhed 1: ALC1200 Digital [ALC1200 Digital]
Underenheder: 1/1
Underenhed #0: subdevice #0
lydkort 1: M2496 [M Audio Audiophile 24/96], enhed 0: ICE1712 multi [ICE1712 multi]
Underenheder: 1/1
Underenhed #0: subdevice #0
And arecord -l shows this:
**** Liste over CAPTURE-hardwareenheder ****
lydkort 0: Intel [HDA Intel], enhed 0: ALC1200 Analog [ALC1200 Analog]
Underenheder: 1/1
Underenhed #0: subdevice #0
lydkort 0: Intel [HDA Intel], enhed 2: ALC1200 Alt Analog [ALC1200 Alt Analog]
Underenheder: 1/1

lydkort 1: M2496 [M Audio Audiophile 24/96], enhed 0: ICE1712 multi [ICE1712 multi]

BTW, I can open Mudita24 now and Audiophile is also visible now under Preferences > Sound (don't know why now and not before), but still there's no sound. Under Preferences > Sound > Input there's nothing, so I guess it's a hardware problem?

Re: Installing a sound card
I have that mAudio card, the mudita gui tab 'analog volume' has the volume sliders.
command lsmod lists kernel modules, and snd_ice1712 is the module for most current mAudio cards.
If you don't see it in the lsmod output, use command
sudo modprobe snd_ice1712 to load it.
In qjackctl, your input and output devices can be the soundcard name seen within brackets
of the aplay -l command output: M Audio Audiophile 24/96
Click the widgets by Input Device/Output Device on the right side of the Setup panel,
and you may see M Audio Audiophile 24/96 or similar,
as one of the options, along with the motherboard sound.
Cheers

Re: Installing a sound card
Hi glowrak guy, thanks a lot. These two sliders were indeed turned down. I also installed the qjackctl and set the Input Device/Output Device to M Audio Audiophile 24/96, and it works now
Thanks again for helping, both of you.
Cheers
