Impossible getting USB MIDI keyboard working on LINUXSAMPLER

Hi there, I'm trying to get rid of windows completely,
i spent a few days trying to get working my usb midi keyboard along with Linuxsampler.
I tried it in UbuntuStudio 32 y 64bits, tried it with Jsampler,Qsampler and Fantasia.
I compiled it following instructions, getting svn sources and compiling.
I tried installing Sql3-dev and recompile for getting instruments database support... nothing, midi stills no working.
Midi keyboard is working with other synths like QSynth but don't with linuxsampler.
Midi monitor program is showing midi activity.
In frontend, I created ALSA midi input device, and tried it with ALSA and JACK audio devices.
In Qjackctl i have connected USB midi keyboard and Linuxsampler, and Linuxsampler with system playback... Midi don't trigger Linuxsampler :(
Strange thing to me is the fact that other synths are working, midi monitor shows midi activity from keyboard, but Linuxsampler don't want working with my keyboard...
Help Please, THANKS IN ADVANCE :)

I often use a midi keyboard with Linuxsampler and it works fine.
One way to use it:

Ensure that jack is running
Start qsampler, check that it initialised, add channel, (use jack), load samples in it (gig, sf2, sfz)

Connect the MIDI capture port to linuxsampler for example

Code: Select all

jack_connect system:midi_capture_1 LinuxSampler:midi_in_0
Ensure that the audioports are connected

Code: Select all

jack_connect LinuxSampler:0 system:playback_1
jack_connect LinuxSampler:0 system:playback_1
Alternatively use qjackctl to route the devices.

The easiest overall solution may be to install KXStudio instead of compiling the packages yourself because it contains most of the things you'll need for Linux Audio Production.
Either download and install the distro http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/Downloads or install it over an existing Ubuntu, Mint or Debian system by adding the repository.

Thanks a lot for your fast response! :)
I tried it by this way but no luck... i will try those codes for making bridges late when at home.

I tried KXstudio but a lot of crashes with Qsampler made me changing to Ubunstudio, but maybe it worths a try again with another front end for linuxsampler, if i don't find a solution for make it work with UbunStudio

THANKS

Unfortunately I don't know what could be causing the KXStudio crashes you were experiencing but you don't have to use the KXStudio isos.
You can still install the "KX Audio Production suite" (I don't know what else to call it lol) on a Debian, Linux Mint or Ubuntu system. That's the way I use it.
I don't like Ubuntu because of their malware and spyware friendly policies. Ubuntustudio doesn't really seem to offer much for audio, it is quite limited compared to KX.
I'd also recommend you install a low-latency kernel if you're using Ubuntu or Mint.

Anyway, some more commands you can use to interrogate your jack ports

List the current ports

Code: Select all

jack_lsp
List the currently connected ports

Code: Select all

jack_lsp -c

And if you wanted to install KXStudio on an existing Ubuntu/Mint/Debian system then

Install the repo listed here
http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/Repositories

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
If you needed linuxsampler

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install linuxsampler-all qsampler
Decide what else you want

Code: Select all

apt-cache search kxstudio

Wow, thanks for your help!
If i update ubuntu with the KXstudio repos, will be the kernel low-lattency?

You're welcome

To install low-latency ubuntu kernel? I think? (I don't use ubuntu)

Try something like this

Code: Select all

apt-cache search linux-lowlatency
It may be called something like "linux-lowlatency"
You'll need to install this and ensure that grub loads it when you reboot.

Check the kernel with

Code: Select all

uname -a

did you verify the keyboard is sending the same channel that linuxsampler is listening for? ( I spent an hour trying to figure that out the other day).

After play with Ardour, Qsampler and MIDI keyboard, i found that i can't play MIDI while Ardour tracks are sounding,if i stop tracks in ardour, midi sound comes back again. I tried in Edit/preferences/audio/monitoring, selecting Ardour like option...no luck...i' missing something...

in the mixer window you can select it to play from disk or input. would that help?
