Since Ardour4 is no longer free to download, it should be removed from the kxstudio-meta-audio package as it now causes dependency problems:
mangrove@zonemini-nT-i1000-Series:/$ sudo apt-get check
[sudo] password for mangrove:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kxstudio-meta-audio : Depends: ardour4 but it is not installed or
ardour4-git but it is not installable or
ardour but it is not installed
Recommends: mixxx but it is not installed
Recommends: giada but it is not installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.
Is there a way to work around this as I can't install anything else, and I don't want to uninstall (if I can) kxstudio-meta-audio because it includes cadence, claudia, catia ...etc.
Thanks!
Vortex...

Re: KXStudio: Ardour no longer free ~ dependancy probs
I read about the sourceforge thing, sorry it's caused so many problems for you developers.
Also, thanks for the quick reply!
Are there different sources for the KXStudio repos that I should point to? I am doing a fresh install of KXStudio using an image I downloaded in April-May-ish.
I understand you moved/are moving to git and I have no idea how to add git repos to Software Sources.
Edit:
F.Y.I.
Also, the only version of Ardour I was able to download was a free-time-limited version of 4.1 and that was only after I submitted my e-mail and was sent a link to download.
Edit2:
Also an F.Y.I.
I am not planning on using Ardour (If I need to I can use the one installed on my laptop) as I use LMMS for most of what I need. As mentioned above, apt-get won't install/uninstall anything unless this dependency issue is resolved. I think my only other option is to remove the kxstudio-meta-audio source from sources.list
Edit3: Success maybe!
That last part in edit2 did the trick I think. It's still processing as I type this.
I used Muon Package Manager/Settings/Configure Software Sources and unchecked the source for kxstudio-meta-audio.
Then I did an:
The upgrade started pulling in a slew of new kxstudio packages including Ardour which is now showing in the app menu.
Thanks FaulkTX for bringing some sanity to my reasoning...

Re: [SOLVED]KXStudio: Ardour no longer free ~ dependancy pro
I had a similar-ish problem when I installed KXStudio and tried to update from a base install at the time SourceForge was down. Falk managed to rescue me from having to reinstall from scratch by giving me a few pointer. I will try and lay out the basic steps I took. Everything else was just sending me in a loop of the same errors!
Try and remove the package that is reporting it has unmet dependencies. Likely this will say again it can't uninstall and give you a tier higher up that relies on it. Mine was related to the kxstudio-meta-audio-plugins but it gave the reason as being a different dependant package. Can't remember if in the end "sudo apt-get remove kxstudio-meta-audio-*" or if I had to go up all the way to kxstudio-meta-*. You will find there is a point where you can remove without complaints and you need to remember what it is you removed.
Once that was done I made sure I had the new KXStudio repos, rather than the old ones, following the instructions of their site for adding to Ubuntu/Debian. http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/Repositories
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install (package you removed earlier.)
After all that everything seemed to be as expected and was using the new LinuxAudio repos, rather than the seemingly rather troublesome SourceForge ones.
As to Ardour. If reading their actual legal licence description is too much like hard work or more likely to send you to sleep than educate you maybe the first entry in the FAQ will help clarify things.

The source code is free, the licence permits anybody to do as they wish with the sourcecode (including package it and include is repos for various Linux distros.) The pre-complied binaries are not. I would suspect they are mainly hoping to make a little bit out of the mainly propriety world which is OSX and then rely on the goodwill of people who really use the software on a daily, or at least weekly, basis to want to become a subscriber as they feel it is worthwhile in the land of Linux where the majority is FOSS. Seems fair enough really...I thought Ardour was free software
Ardour is free in the sense that you are free to do anything with it that you want (including use it on as many machines as you wish, make copies of it for friends and so forth). Some people like to explain this with the phrase "free as in free speech, not free as in free beer".
It is also free in the sense that you can get the source code at any time and build it yourself. This can be a complicated and difficult task, especially on OS X.
This is a big, complex software project, and without revenue to support its development, it will almost certainly grind to a halt. Our download system is one way that we try to raise revenue. Please consider being a part of the wonderful group of people who help to make this continued development of Ardour possible.
