zyn, save dynamic filter parameters
Hello!
I'm a happy user of ZynAddsubFx, but I have a problem: I want to add a WahWah effect to a sound in the standard presets. If I save the new preset (in a new file), whenever I open the file, the WahWah effect is there only nominally, but all the knobs are zero, and it sounds as if no effect were there.
Is there something I am forgetting, is it a bug, can someone tell me what the problem could be?
Thanks!

Uhm, no, unfortunately there is the same problem.falkTX wrote:Please try with the git version, by installing zynaddsubfx-git.
2.5.x has various fixes, perhaps for this too.
It might not be a bug, maybe I just have to do something extra (e.g. save the effect parameters somewhere else).

I'm not quite understanding what you're doing and when in this process you're expecting to see the wahwah effect initialized.
Could you perhaps change your description to a series of screenshots, actions taken between screenshots, and expected behavior at each stage?
That's a lot of work for me to request of you, but it should make it clear if this is buggy behavior or if things are just unintuitive (which is something else which should get fixed in the longer term).

Re: zyn, save dynamic filter parameters
Sure. So, I load a preset in Carla:

I open the effects:

Instead of the EQ, I put a DynFilter, with the WahWah preset:

I save the new parameters in a new file:

When I load my new preset (in Carla or Yoshimi), the effect parameters say "WahWah", but as you can see all the knobs are blank, and the sound has no wahwah at all:

I hope this is clear enough!

Re: zyn, save dynamic filter parameters
Yoshimi does the same.falkTX wrote:You should try this in the standalone version.
the carla's zyn code is not always up to date. (zyn moves too fast)
But it doesn't seem to be a Carla issue, I guess Carla just "tells" Zyn to load the preset, and Zyn does everything, right?
One could open the xmz file to see if the controls of the effects are effectively there or not. I tried, but I can't understand anything... if you guys are more expert, here is the file.
(btw, what is the difference between xiz and xmz?)

Re: zyn, save dynamic filter parameters
yoshimi is an unrelated project as far as bugs are concerned, please compare this behavior to zynaddsubfx-git.
Looking into the source of the relevant code and the included .xmz, it would appear that somehow the serialization code observed those knobs to have a value of '0' and then omitted them from the xml representation.
This does not look like it can happen in the current git version, so I suspect that this has already been fixed, though I won't be able to confirm for a bit.
The difference between .xmz and .xiz is that .xmz files saves the whole application state (multiple parts, system effects, etc) where as .xiz saves a single instrument which does include effects local to the instrument.
Thanks for detailing this bug.

Re: zyn, save dynamic filter parameters
Yeah, this bug is confirmed to exist in the standalone.
I'll hopefully have a fix pushed in an hour or two.

Re: zyn, save dynamic filter parameters
Ok, the bug seems to be resolved on my system and the changes are pushed to the official repo.

Thank you SO much for this!fundamental wrote:Ok, the bug seems to be resolved on my system and the changes are pushed to the official repo.
On KXStudio, do I find it as the git version, or regular?

Re: zyn, save dynamic filter parameters
By the way, what does Carla do? Does she save the zyn parameters in the file, or does she load the zyn preset?

Re: zyn, save dynamic filter parameters
Ok, then there is a problem with Carla. I have updated it, and installed zyn-git, and now:
- If I load my *zyn* preset in Carla, it correctly loads the dynamic filter
- If I load a *Carla* preset containing the zyn preset above as an instrument, it does not load the dynamic filter (exactly like before).
Any workaround?

That's what I did. Still doesn't work, unfortunately.falkTX wrote:if you have some old carla presets that included zynaddsubfx you'll need to resave them.
