Does anyone of you have any experience with docks? Tips, hacks, ...?

What I have done on kxstudio with KDE is make a 2nd kpanel at the top of the screen to use as a launcher of my favorite music apps.
I have it set to auto-hide, and it provides a quick way to start the apps I use frequently. With this I never use the regular KDE menu launch music apps (don't find the Multimedia menu to be very well organized).

Have you tried EasyStroke Gesture Recognition?
You can run anything with a simple stroke of your mouse - it's great to have some special mouse buttons for this.
Runs very well on any desktop I tried (Gnome, KDE, LXDE, XFCE, OpenBox).
