Is Ardour 4 fit to use?
I have been a stick in the mud and using Ardour 2, I have just got Ardour 4 via kxstudio repos and I like the look of it and the fact it seems lighter on the system.
Anyone who has used it, is it stable enough to entrust my workflow to please?

I've not used, but early reports on both the new release, and the betas that preceded it, are that it is very stable.
I'm waiting for it to show up on Arch. I never really got on with 3, but they seem to have fixed all the annoyances.

I have yet to sit down and do something with it, but I've read several comments from the devs that mention its much more stable than the last release of ardour 3 was. (1000+ bugfixes!)

Try ardour-git on AUR. It's been serving Ardour4 for some time.cianoc wrote:I'm waiting for it to show up on Arch. I never really got on with 3, but they seem to have fixed all the annoyances.
I haven't yet done any projects with 4, but I played around with midi and midi plugins in a way that I'm sure would have crashed 3. I had no problems. At all. Version 4 feels much more stable. By the way, I also didn't notice any big feature changes that might make midi editing easier, but I did notice a few small tweaks that made midi on Ardour4 slightly less annoying, at least for me.

My stuff tends to be audio. Nothing more frustrating than getting a decent 'take' to find out that system has gone toes up, hence the question.

Re: Is Ardour 4 fit to use?
I used it for awhile last night, just seeing whats available in the gui, and getting life in the meters.
My guess is, they've invested tons of work in V4 audio, and bugs/crashes
will be few and far between, and probably only in the most unique setup scenarios.
When Bitwig first launched, there was plenty of work to do fixing things. I would think
the Windows version of Ardour would also have some first release issues, considering
how wonderful windoze must be to support, with the linux version sailing smoothly
on the foundation of earlier stable versions.
Cheers

Used it yesterday for recording and editing stuff with a friend. Smooth, clean, light, and pleasant from launch to export!
Keep on rocking in the free world!

Ardour 4 has new features, but summarizes monthes of bug fixes. With the new "daily builds" system , the devs have had a lot of feedback and done a lot of work before issuing V4,so it's reliable. Zero bug is not possible, obviously.

Having been a Rosegarden user exclusively I find Ardour a real culture shock. It seems to run OK here (4.2) but I have great difficulty finding stuff
