Midi Newbie Needs Config Help for Linux Mint

Am wondering if a kind Rosegarden user would help me figure out how to connect my Korg microKey to a software synth (e.g. Qsynth/Fluid) so that I can play notes on the keyboard, have them captured in Rosegarden, hear them while I'm playing, and heard them played back from Rosegarden. Right now, no matter what I've done I don't hear music output. If I hit the keys on the keyboard, I see Qsynth receiving them, but I heard only what sounds like a distorted noise if I hit keys on the Korg.

I'm running Linux Mint 17.1

I have installed Rosegarden, and it is able to capture input from my the Korg keyboard. I also have Qsynth installed, as well has Jack and QJackCtrl. I'm open to using different software, including the synth, but at this point, I need step by step.

Here's my setup screens.

Set qsynth to jack (Qsynth Setup Audio) && connect Audio/MIDI in QJackCtrl
4. Load Qsynth, go into the setup, check Enable MIDI Input and turn the midi driver to alsa_seq, in the audio tab ensure the Audio Driver is set to jack, in the sound fonts tab open your downloaded sound font from above. Click ok and reset the server when it asks.
6. Go back into the JACK Audio Connection Kit window and click Connect, here we are going to make sure in the Audio tab that qsynth is connected to the system output (drag handles).

Use a2jmidid
For other versions of JACK, add a2jmidid -e & as an "after start-up" script in the Setup > Options tab of QJackCtl, so that it is started automatically whenever you start JACK.
