I would like to intruduce myself.
Found this forum by searching around on the internet.

I'm 25 years old played piano for a long time but since I'm studiing i was not able to play piano as I have no place in my student room. Little bit difficult.
But I like computers too, so I started mainly in video production and did some projects for my school mates.
I switched to linux in 2007 started with openSUSE, have also one installation of Ubuntu as well and for my server/workstation I used CentOS.
Found out that linux much better for me than windows (I know this is kind of religious question) and I have all the software I need preinstalled and only 1 click for installing new stuff. No banners or hundreds of updater messages. And when it runs than it runs forever.

For Video production I first used Sony Vegas on Windows Platform but I found out that Kdenlive is also a very intuitive editior with very nice gui and can do things only professional programs can do (not talking about Magix movie maker).

At one point two years ago I wanted to do some music stuff too and did some research what is possible with linux.

Concerning the music stuff I was also searching for music software. Found Ardour of course but this is more for recording music in a studio. I wanted to do some electronic music so I tried to use lmms on linux but I didn't like it very much. Like video production and it's tools also learning a DAW is very time intensive. But after all I didn't want to learn lmms I didn't liked. And there were also this VST problems because most things are not for linux.

So I heard that Fruity Loops on windows should be like lmms so I tried this too but also didn't like it. So I installed a demo version of Ableton which was much better.

And now I tried Bitwig studio demo and it also works on my openSUSE installation maybe this software is better for me. Let's see:)
I know it's not free software but sometime you can't come around some commercial plugins I know this from video stuff. So I hope music software is getting better at all when there are also some commercial software avaiable. Don't get me wrong I like open source and the idea behind it. But I also think that with some commercial software linux get more in the focus of other people and of course the companies. Its like the steam software.
I think opensource software and commercial software can coexist when there are free standards.
