Crashes working with audio (urgent)

Hi everybody. I use Reaper under KXstudio. When i purchased Reaper uninstalled the version which came with KXstudio and installed by myself the last one.
Since that moment i have more xruns than ever and more crashes than ever, even with another audio software. For example since today every time i plug my guitar and process it in reaper with amplitube i play one chord and everything f&#/&% up and reaper crashes and can reopen it agan.
I been experimenting with the latency and that things because i do electronic improvisations in real time, so is very important for me the latency and when i got this working finde with a latency of 10 ms. withoute xruns, then i have this crashes that makes me want to do bad things.
Sorry for my english. I need HELP.
This is my equipment and config:
Laptop Lenovo y560, intel core i5, RAM 4 gb, Hard drive 5400 rpm. KXstudio 64 bits
Interface Focusrite 2i4 usb
Cadence:
Buffer size: 512
System status: Performance
Sample rate: 48000
Periods/buffer: 4
Dithering mode: none
Soft mode: On
Real time priority 99
Client timeout: 0
Clock Source: System
Advanced: Server synchronous mode: On

Periods/Buffer should I think be 3, for usb/firewire gear.
and qjackctl priority can be 89, when 99 is chosen in limits.conf.
Doublecheck all the audio system parts have the same bitrate. 44100 sounds fine.

I would also do an all 32 bit linux install for a reaper and amplitube setup,
disable bluetooth, network mamagers, webcam, screensavers, and with caution, the power management.

You should get GrindMachine Free for metal. And the Lepou SoloC Fullstack for rock/blues, and some TSE goodies,
and Emissary, and NRR1 among others from Ignite Amps, also the Simulanalog Suite and Freeamp
are still highly regarded.

look in top or htop, make sure hal is not polling sr0 every few seconds.

I have Amplitube, and like it a lot, but use a lot more of Rakarrack, and Guitarix.
Hope this helps!

Sorry if didn't answer, and thank you for bein the ONLY ONE to answer.
The most important by the moment is the crashes problem. You think it could be solved with a 32 bit version?

Hi, you can test 32bit by making a live cd/dvd. and installing reaper, and
the amplitube free version. Santa (finally, at long last!) gave me an iso of AVLinux Diehard release,
and I booted it, dragged a Reaper folder over from an XP partition, created

.wine/drive_C/Program Files/Steinberg/VstPlugins

and dropped some vsts there, and it worked fine. Amplitube
has it's own path, and you can link the .dll to the above path,
or just point reaper to where the installer puts it. I link the amplitube .exe and .dll
to /home/me, for east terminal launch

If like me, you have little bandwidth, bodhi linux is CD size,
ubuntu based, and can use the KX repos, and host a test session.
Cheers
edit: the vast majority of all the music you love, was made with
8,16, or 32 bits, or analog dinosaurus wrecks 8)

This is a very interesting situation Murmur, sorry that i didn't notice this topic early.
First let me say that in your hardware, the weakest spot is your hard drive. You can bring out the best of it in this situation by adding 'noatime' as partition option in /etc/fstab.
Second using values for jack realtime priority above 89 is not recommended. The values between 90-99 can interrupt processes, which can lead to system lockups and/or crashes. So choose something between 70 and 89 for jack.
Third the value of Periods/Buffer should be the lowest as the soundcard allows. This is usually 2 for internal and 3 for external card
Forth wine likes 32 bit systems.
Fifth, you cannot make a general conclusion about your system performance based around a program that runs on wine. After all wine is nothing more than a hack.
And finally buffer size of 512 is too high. It can be justified only having in mind the fact that you are using a software under wine.

Better to dismiss wine as a hack, in a room filled with it's development team. An absurd insult
to the skills of those donating countless man hours so that linux people have
options beyond the two corporate operating systems. Wine and reaper are still
the most viable setup for a productive daw in linux. The others cost so much in
either time or money, or limitations, that it's difficult to compete. I do hope
they all do well, (I enjoy using a lot of linux apps, several distros full of the little buggers)
and I hope they move forward as they desire. This was a year of dramatic improvements
in linux audio, but reaper and wine have not been in some deep hibernation during this season.
It may even prove impossible to catch up to them. Time will tell. 8)
Cheers

I've been recording for years with priorities in limits.conf at 99, and .jackdrc at 89.
Hasn't been a crash-fest, because I have the good fortunes of extremely compatible gear,
and stable well tested software. With old slow hardware, but modern desires, I need to maximize performance,
to be sonically happy. I'm not surfing or compiling or crunching spreadsheets when the record button is pressed.
And I doubt a spreadsheet or web browser cares what priority non-running-audio-apps have...

I decided to make a doble boot and keep trying. I'll reinstall kxstudio and get a Reaper 32 bit.
If i choose Reaper is because of the windows vst plugins and because is an amazing daw. I think the most of the linux plugins have lower sound quality compared with a lot of windows vst's.
And for me is important work with 24 bits and 48000. If you don't use a lot of audio processing maybe you can work with 44100.
I want to do live experimental music performances and i use a lot of processing, samplers and line takes. A 44100 take doesn't resist much processing without loosing quality. With 48000 it's much better.
Is this posible in linux? What i need to do that?
I want to stay in linux but i need to know if what i want is possible or not so i can follow working on that with more optimism and trust

You can set your prefs for rates in qjackctl and reaper, to your soundcard/chipset limits.
One mission of Ardour is to have the best audio fidelity. Timemachine records 24bit .w64
files, you can import/edit/export with audacity. Aqualung, vlc, and others also play that format,
and have jackd plugins for output. Lots of options.

The lowest quality in your signal chain, will dominate the final result. For example, if your PA/speakers
are medium quality, or are used in consistantly noisy rooms, pristine output will be less important, in cases
where high bitrates may be strangling your session. So there may be wiggle room for quality choices, when live.
Native Instruments usb, maudio pci, focusrite, lexicon, and other brands should allow 24bit 48k flows.
Reaper lets you render at very high quality settings,
and you can route/mix it's live output to/with other linux apps for linux fx/output/recording.
The lid is off the toolbox, be happy, and dig in! :D

calf-jack-host command loads the great Calf fx collection, which includes a
fine monosynth and organ, as well as it's many pro fx. Calf is in most repositories.
There are also mda and invada collections, and anything with zita in the name,
will be a quality app.
