Carla & Claudia: a few more questions

Hi all,
With background information on Carla and Claudia being frustratingly sparse, online, I'm still struggling to get my head around finer details.
The case:
I have been informed that playing sfz, sf2 and giga sound fonts/sample is easily done with Carla, Claudia and a MIDI-enabled digital piano or (piano-style) MIDI controller. I now know how to go about here. What I want, however, is playing sfz sample with an electric string instrument (not necessarily guitar) as MIDI controller. But this seems considerably less straightforward.
My arsenal:
- a Lenovo desktop with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS as main platform;
- Carla, Claudia, Jackctl;
- in the Ubuntu launcher - but not yet used - Catarina, Non Timeline, Non Session Manager, Non Mixer, Qsampler;
- sfz and .big musical instrument sample (the latter copied from Sibelius 7 Sounds);
- several electric string instruments;
- a Behringer UCG102 'Guitar Link' USB interface (which Ubuntu recognizes).
My questions:
- still unclear as to whether Jackctl should be called in as well, when Carla and Claudia are running;
- if so, connecting Jackctl with Carla or Claudia or both, and Carla and/or Claudia with the USB interface is diabolically confusing: clear as mud where (or how) to start;
- is anything in KXStudio or in Ubuntu enabling .big sample to be played as well? If yes, this means that Windows 7 (on which I currently rely for playing back musical instrument sample) and Aria player could be ditched;
-Will the Behringer 'Guitar Link' do, as USB interface, in the Carla/Claudia setup aimed for? Or should I go for something else? Your experiences please.
For the moment, my concern is getting the instrument sound most badly needed out of Carla, mainly. Where this should go (in)to is of later worry. And there's some urgency as well here, since this specific sound is required for a job for which, presently, only a limited time frame remains. Hence, any help in getting this 'on the road' is highly appreciated.
