A couple of days ago, I decided to try out Candance. I installed the KXStudio repo's for Ubuntu, following the instructions here, and I also installed the kxstudio-default-settings package, as recommended.
I found that Cadance didn't really suit my needs, so I decided to uninstall it. I ppa-purged all of KXStudio's repo's, and everything seemed to have been uninstalled successfully. Ever since I've done this, however, I've been experiencing serious issues with audio-related software.
My main DAW, Renoise, no longer sees my plugins, unless I open it as root.
Also, my screencaster, SimpleScreenRecorder, records audio at incorrect and varying pitch.
It's interesting, because this is a well known issue caused by a bug in PulseAudio (you can read about it here), and I myself had this issue when I first started using SSR. The way to fix it, is to go in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf, and add "default-sample-rate = 44100", and "alternate-sample-rate = 44100". The thing is, I've done this already. I've double checked daemon.conf, and those two lines are still there. So why does SSR act as if those lines don't exist, and why does Renoise act as if my plugins don't exist?
Some help would be much appreciated.

Thank you for the help. Both Renoise and SSR work as expected now.
The entire reason I installed Cadance was because I liked how easy it made creating a Jack+PulseAudio bridge, and allowing me to have multiple audio sources. Unfortunately, I experienced various crashes, but more importantly, whenever I would close the bridge, Cadance would kill PulseAudio. As I discovered, Cadance modifies PulseAudio's client.conf file, and changes the "autospawn" parameter to "no", but never back to "yes". It freaked me out the first time I booted into Ubuntu to find that PulseAudio wasn't active, and it took me a while to figure out why that was.
I don't want to use Jack exclusively, hence why I concluded that Candence doesn't suit my needs.
Of course not. Renoise can talk to ALSA directly and doesn't use PulseAudio. Unfortunately, doing so doesn't allow for any other audio sources except for Renoise, and I've yet to figure out how to force other apps to use the ALSA stream.falkTX wrote:You want to use pulseaudio to make music? Well... good luck..
