Does reaper come preinstaled with kxstudio 64bt?
I can't even begin to start to explain how many days/weeks i been loading linux os to try and migrate my studio into a linux based workbench..I remember having loaded this kxstudio 32bit early last week and found that it didn't have Reaper..installed it manually and it worked..just needed to ask about it maybe being in the 64bit version instead.?
Re: Does reaper come preinstaled with kxstudio 64bt?
will do, thanks ..got my usb loaded with KXStudio 64bit and going to install it
Re: Does reaper come preinstaled with kxstudio 64bt?
Are KxStudio live dvds able to work on USB?
cause its not working for me through USB
Either i toasted my Grub so bad it doesn't see the USB ..or the download is corrupted...or maybe the Kxstudio isnt setup to boot off a usb ?
should i download 3rd party sw to get it to burn to usb to boot up?
I don't have a CD burner currently

Re: Does reaper come preinstaled with kxstudio 64bt?
I wasnt able to load the kxstudio from my usb ..i did run checksum and it all checked out..just kept freezing up in and error after the kxstudio icon was showing for a minute..
I finaly just loaded ubuntu 64bit fresh into the drive i was planing to install Kx Studio in..
my next question is it possible to install or upgrade from siting inside of a new install of ubuntu 14.04 LTS and get KX studio to install over this..or maybe even beside it?

Add the kx studio repositories to synaptic, and reload.
The new software will be ready to install. This page
should get you going.
http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net/Documen ... ry:Upgrade
To be safe, stick to updating/installing
audio apps at first, not major system components, get a feel for
the audio production, and do system experiments on something other
than your main computer hard-disk.
Cheers

If you have the bootloader started from your usb stick, and then it gets stuck somewhere during boot, my bet is hardware compatibility problem. It would help if you provided some detail on the errors you are getting. Most times I had similar troubles, it was video card/driver incompatibility. In fact, one of my laptops has an nvidia card in it, and it won't boot kxstudio, as well as ubuntu. Another one of my laptops also has an nvidia and it also wouldn't boot ubuntu a couple of years back, but this had been remedied in the later kernels.
Usually there is a way to boot on problematic hardware by enabling some kernel flags in GRUB. What I do for my nvidia-featured laptop is enable the "nomodeset" flag, and then it would boot into bad-looking low-resolution mode, which however gives me the chance to go on with the installation. On the installed system, I would enable the non-free ubuntu repositories and then get nvidia's proprietary drivers, which function properly with the hardware.
Basically AFAIK kxstudio is Ubuntu with relatively minor modifications, so if kxstudio won't boot, most chances ubuntu won't either.
Also take into account that AFAIK the major difference between generic ubuntu and kxstudio is that kxstudio features realtime kernel, which ubuntu doesn't feature. So in case you need a linux distro capable of realtime audio processing, kxstudio is a better choice. Otherwise you can install generic ubuntu (or better kubuntu, for the sake of better compatibility with KDE-based kxstudio), and then install the customized RT-enabled kernel on it. I can't give you advice on this, as I've never done this.
EDIT: it seems that kernel flags you enable when booting the live-dvd will become permanent in your installed system. So you might want to consider manually removing them from your /boot/grub/grub.cfg once you sort out hardware compatibility issues.

Re: Does reaper come preinstaled with kxstudio 64bt?
I have never tried the ubuntu usb-create thing, I use a free app called Universal USB Installer. Just format your usb stick to NTFS, choose "kxstudio" in the app's interface, and it will do the rest for you. I think it can also take care of formatting, but I generally prefer to format myself.

The errors i wrote them down on paper to relay here on one of my other computers..
i may have not written it well enough to be exact , but im sure it will give enough info to tell what it might be
----error--
the current error with loading from my usb stick
on the other note i did follow the above refered to update to turn the freshly loaded ubuntu into KXStudio
everything worked out..it loaded into kde desktop and was able to get around it..it was working fine..even cadence..
jack was running..
the thing i noticed was that the user wasnt in group..so i rember reading back to set the user to audio group..so i opened up kuser added me to the audio group..
the system was prompting for updates and i went ahead and updated..rebooted..
came back to login screen made sure the kde desktop was ticked..and went into loading ..it loaded the desktop all ..but then wouldnt let me click anything ..justcan move my mouse over things but nothing is clickable...or responding..
fan speed is a bit high..
my system is a Asus P8P67 i5 Intel
graphics card is HD Radeon 6770
ubuntu was working great soon as i had it installed..was able to do everything needed to get me into KXStudio
was able to dink around in kxstudio..change dektop prefrences and open up cadence to see that it was working..
just now its stuck..
lol
sooo close..sooo close..

Re: Does reaper come preinstaled with kxstudio 64bt?
Well it can't mount the boot image, so obviously it won't boot. Can you elaborate on what software did you use to create the live usb? On what platform (windows/linux)? And what is the filesystem on your stick (ntfs/fat32/fat16/ext2, etc.)? If you have a windows computer, try to format the stick to ntfs and then use Universal usb installer to put the image on it. This app doesn't require installation, and it has never failed me. I've never created a live usb stick on linux, so not sure what software you should use there and how to format the stick. Perhaps in this case formatting to fat32 is my best bet.alienbee wrote:thanks tangerine -

Did you install a generic ubuntu or a Kubuntu? Maybe if you start with something closer to the KXstudio (Kubuntu), you will have less to break by upgrading. This upgrade thing is kinda prone to errors as it is. My advice would be first to make sure you definitely can't install from the KXstudio live disk.alienbee wrote:on the other note i did follow the above refered to update to turn the freshly loaded ubuntu into KXStudio

Sounds like nothing unusual. AMD/Ati video cards are supposed to have a good linux support.my system is a Asus P8P67 i5 Intel

Re: Does reaper come preinstaled with kxstudio 64bt?
I looked up your motherboard, and it appears to have a uefi firmware. I've never dealt with this stuff, but this might be the problem. In this situation, possibly the Ubuntu usb-creator will do a better job than universal usb installer.
Maybe take a look here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Insta ... Stick#UEFI
and here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI
But first see if you can install by simpler methods.

Re: Does reaper come preinstaled with kxstudio 64bt?
If you don't have a working linux machine, I think you can use the ubuntu usb-creator this way: boot from generic ubuntu/kubuntu live disk, then look if it has usb-creator installed. If it has it, there you go (but you will need an additional usb stick to install kxstudio live image to). If it doesn't have usb-creator on the live disk, connect to the internet and install it.
Re: Does reaper come preinstaled with kxstudio 64bt?
Man!! i gave up ...see i was using the one usb creater lilo linux usb creator..the one with the prety looking flower...
http://www.linuxliveusb.com/
tried the OpenSuse image writer..
and this other one
http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
but ultimatly gave up..
my son was over last night and he just kicked me out of my chair and told me to go get a drink..was i gonna say no?
came back and he had bypassed the USB altogether using some super grub thing...and told me that i has somewhere along all this erased my original windows boot record (cause I was dual booting) ...he said it was "fried ..and just gone.."
I said "well i deleted opensuse on the C drive !! i just took out all the partitoions.."
he said "yep..and your boot partition along with it"
so long story short..the solution!!
"use this usb stick ..forever! (super grub) wait for the list of options to boot from show....and pick one to boot.."
KXStudio! is one of them....the other the old windows XP i was using.
freakin brain geek..! he figured out how to load it by using that super grub loader ..by parking the KXStudio iso in a direcoty on the hard drive ..
the super grub loader has the abilty to pull an iso image to load from a boot directroy off a hard drive!!
providing you put it in a directory named "boot-isos"
Super Grub Disk
http://www.supergrubdisk.org/
So Im in
loading up my tools now..
sweeet that it sports KDE..!!!
I use a M-Audio 1010LT and reaper picks it up through the WASAPI - park the settings in "exclusive " sample rate 96000 and im recording directly in at 5 ms latency..using the Envy24 Mudita mixer..
I have another sound card (SBLIVE)installed along side and that one is providing audio out for browsers and soundcloud/youtube-etc..
downloaded the Pulse Audio Volume control and parked that one in the tray like a remote control on a coffee table, im good to go..
was jaming through my guitar and waiting for it to have a hickup last night and it didnt have even a fart..nothing..it was smooth..didnt feel like it was like rubber..flexking in and out or nothing..steady eddie..
today gonna load up ADDictive drums and jam for a few hours along side it..
at this rate if i can get rolling fast enough I could just use this KXSTudio for my next release due in two weeks..(no idea for a song yet)
you guys rock!!
seriously thanks !! im good for now..!!
oy yeah..me out
Im good
Re: Does reaper come preinstaled with kxstudio 64bt?
Haha, sounds like drinking is good for you
Regarding booting from an iso, if I understand you right, you don't have KXstudio installed and you are booting from the live image located somewhere on you hard disk? If that's correct, not sure how well this approach is going to work in the long term. Especially considering persistence between boots. You should try rebooting and see if your data and documents persist.

Re: Does reaper come preinstaled with kxstudio 64bt?
ah no tangerine..haa Im going on 50 years..Ive had my fun with drinking way early on..I did go get some chineese food instead ..
what he did was INSTALLED it ..the problem was more in how i toasted my MBR ..i cant boot right into anything except by using the program on the usb stick called "Super Grub Loader" ..as long as i have that USB stick plugin in during boot it shows up a list of partitons to choose from to boot ..KXStudio Is Installed ..finally. and working!! I been loading it up with my tools to make some music all morning..so far so good..i had to take wife to the store for like half the day but picking up where i left off now..
again..it had more to do with how the usb stick was trying to work right..im sure it was working right..it was something to do more with how i fried my MBR..
yesterday or the night before i was able to get Ubuntu to load through the USB ..then did a upgrade or change to KXStudio..with instructions from off the site...it hung on rebooting after it updated..
then my son took over and showed me how to really get the thing installed..
he formated before and did a fresh clean install of KXStudio.
all is well my firend..all is well.
thanks for all your help and suport..
