using linux mint 16, I am running my guitar through the line in at the back of my pc, i want to run my guitar through rakarrack but i am getting the raw input sound still coming through along side the effected sound.... when i run jack and disconnect everything it still comes through, no matter how i configure everything I can still hear the raw input coming through my speakers as well.. through jack/sound preferences/pavcontrol... i have the pulseaudio-jack module installed and that routes pulse through jack with no problems..
to my way of thinking the chain should go
System capture (line in) > rakarrack > system playback
any ideas?
Still getting raw signal through

Re: Still getting raw signal through
You need to mute capture in alsamixer.
Depending on your soundcard, here I have to mute AC97.
run alsamixer in terminal, press F4 to get only the capture channels, mute all what is there and try which one it is.

Re: Still getting raw signal through
Thanks for the replies but your suggestions have made no difference.
If i use the terminal f4 shows nothing, i have to press f6 then select my card, then muting the line in just stops all sound from my guitar entering the pc.....turning the capture volume down makes no difference
If i use sound preferences and select the jack sink as an input/output source, all that happens is alsa takes the boost off of the line in and it is barely audiable
-----------------------------------------
could you be more specific? where should i find 'playback' in rakarrack? alsamixer? jack?
if i turn the playback in alsamixer down then i get no guitar through my pc at all
i have tried everythintg i can see in gnome alsamixer, terminal aslamixer, pavcontrol, sound preferences and none of them are stopping the raw signal coming through at the same time as the processed sound..I am getting both or none
let me clarify
I would like my guitar to come through my pc, ONLY when jack is connected, i do not want to hear the raw sound at the same time as rakarrack is processing it

Okay, then press F4 after you have select your card. Mute all channels you see then.1.618 wrote:If i use the terminal f4 shows nothing, i have to press f6 then select my card,
If you don't hear your guitar anymore, start jack and connect your input to output. You will hear it.
Alternative give us the output of amixer

Re: Still getting raw signal through
I'm not sure what happened but it's working correctly now, my pulseaudio sinks decided to vanish from jack and sound preferences even though they were installed and i couldn't get any sound through anything at all, so I've re installed them and they were still missing, then rebooted and suddenly everything is working ok, the pulse sinks are have reappeared in jack and i can only hear my guitar when jack is connected... Which is what i was looking to achievetramp wrote:Okay, then press F4 after you have select your card. in gnome-alsamixer i had to silence line in but tick the 'rec' box underneath capture and then when i connected jack it came through.
