I'm using Mepis, a Debian-based distro, and I can't find Ardour in the package manager. I'm checking all the stable repositories (Mepis, Debian, and Debian-multimedia), but nothing's coming up. I was sure that Ardour was available for Debian. Why isn't it turning up? I'd sooner headbutt a reel-to-reel tape recorder than attempt to compile the application from source code... but I'm open to any other recommendations.
On a semi-related note, can you install a real time kernel into Mepis?

Ardour was only in unstable for a long time. Just a while ago it has hit Debian testing.
You can install a realtime kernel, for example from the AVlinux distro or 64studio.com or compile your own
btw welcome

Ahhh it's not stable yet. That makes sense.
I'm downloading A/V Linux now. Cross your fingers.
Ubuntu Studio looks so pretty, but seems rather impractical.
Thanks for the welcome! I may be spending many hours here.
